Awesome thank you! Yes that is correct. Malcolm was my father and then married Geraldine. I look forward to delving deeper. I've vague recollections of my grandmother assume it's rose talboys from above stating she got back to 1066! Lost in time now sadly but will try my best. Thanks for helping me get started :-)

Thanks,
Wonder if they are the parents of Malcolm Talboys born 1947 and married Geraldine Talboys 1977. Seems possible from the dates.
Thank you, Matthew Talboys

Interesting read. Suspect I am descendant from the Coventry branch. Father Malcolm Talboys and grandparents Alfred and Margaret. Little more known I'm afraid but looking to trace it back.

So the Coventry lot go back to Aston and back to Gloucestershire. It's been suggested that it is preferably to revive old threads rather than creating new ones for the same family so here goes (i'm just waiting for someone to kick off about that!)
We go back to Gloucestershire, knocking about in Stroud, Dursley, Tetbury etc. I've been strict about following parish records and I have the following - I'm open to disagreement :-)
Charles Talboys born in Cam, Gloucesyershire was born in 1781 and married Ann Bower.
Charles Talboys' Father was Thomas Talboys born in 1753 in Cam who married Mary Brown/e. Thomas had a Brother Daniel born in Cam in 1747 (best guess from parish records fitting).
Thomas Talboys' Father was Benjamin Talboys born in 1732 down the road in Uley, Gloucestershire who married Mary Hale.
Benjamin Talboys' Father (there are two Benjamin Talboys of different generations) was Richard Talboys who married Hester Longden. Richard was born in 1699 in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.
Richard Talboys' Father was (and this is where it gets tricky) detailed as Francis on Richard's Baptism Certificate, however, the spelling appears to be the female version - I have gone on the presumption that Frances/Francis was the Dad however as Baptism Certificates usually list at least the Father *unless Father died soon after Richard's birth) and spelling wasn't great back then (or we are no good at spelling now!).
Where it now gets tricky is there are no male marriages for Francis to a female, only for female Frances marrying a male in Gloucestershire and i've also looked UK wide. One did come up in France for the time period but I can see no links back to the UK and it's way too late to have the family migrating from France! We know from history that that comes much, much earlier.
Francis' Father is Richard Talboys. Again, interesting, the only Richard Talboys Baptism that actually fits is one on 13 Dec 1644 at Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, Middlesex, England. So, is the link before Gloucestershire actually London.
Any thoughts, no issue with being disproved!
Thanks :)

Suggest that you join the Birmingham History Forum. It can be a fantastic source of information. It's free but you do need to join. I've come across all sorts of little gems on there.

David, No-one is suggesting that you are lazy. Unfortunately this hobby / passion can become expensive but there's no other way to be sure of facts without trawling the records and ultimately paying out for certificates.
Many an assumption has been made from looking at censuses ( me included) only to find when the certificate arrives that relationships are not exactly as written in the census.
Sometimes family memories are a godsend and other times they are a hindrance.
MarieCeleste has saved you the price of the marriage certificate for Charles and Elizabeth.
Take the information from the transcript and follow it through step by step.
It's almost certain that Charles' father was Arthur but see what the birth cert says
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Dec 1864 TALBOY Charles - Stroud 6a 296
If it confirms his mother as Ellen Greening, this looks like their marriage ( again Talboy without the S)
Marriages Sep 1860 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Badham Edwin Gloucester 6a 417 ****Greening Ellen Jane - Gloucester 6a 417 SWAIN Maria Gloucester 6a 417 ****TALBOY Arthur - Gloucester 6a 417

Hello, thanks for your replies. I do know that Gran's paternal grandad was also Charles Arthur because that's what Gran told me. The reason I now know that Charles Talboys Snr married Elizabeth Harvey is because after that information came through on here it made my Gran remember - she is elderly. Sadly, I do not know the family beyond my Gran because I am 25 years old and nowhere near old enough. I'm also in Bournemouth rather than Coventry, I'm not lazy, just a little stuck really :-)
Ben.
