Hi Janet

Ive just found your first thread, which did not conclude your search.....but

Can you keep to the same thread for this person/family or we end up repeating info that has already been found

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/thread/1287382?page=1

Im glad you got the answers (on your second thread) that you were looking for, but it would have happened much sooner, if, we had known all the info posted on the above thread

If you need to push up a thread to the top on the board, just look in 'My Threads' (towards the bottom left of your screen) and then add a comment to it....that'll do the trick :-D

Georges brothers marriage, he lists him with the correct name....

England & Wales Marriages, 1538-1940

Age: 23
Father's Name: Thomas Wenham
Spouse's Name: Ellen Selina Gathercole

Spouse's Father's Name: James Gathercole
Marriage Date: 2 Aug 1884
Marriage Place: Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, England

Georges father was indeed Thomas, it just seems that George jnr decided to call him George!

Gee

Gee Report 6 Mar 2012 17:05

All the information that is supplied for Thomas, by Thomas or his father, Calab (the father of George) shows him as such

The only info that lists him as 'George' is the info that his son gives....I'd guess that George jnr knew his father as 'George' for whatever reason

Janet

Janet Report 6 Mar 2012 17:04

Do you think that the birth I have is correct and his parents were Thomas and Mary. I am doing this for an Aunty who is 91, she has given me as much information that she could but didn't know Georges fathers name

Thanks for all the help you have given.

Gee

Gee Report 6 Mar 2012 16:56

Ive added to the post before your last one

Janet

Janet Report 6 Mar 2012 16:51

Not sure if it is the correct one though as the father is listed at Thomas. If he was married before, and I think that he was in a census in 1881 him listed as a florist (I know that for definite) he had a brother listed also as a florist. I am now not sure if he's father was a George or a Thomas!!!

Gee

Gee Report 6 Mar 2012 16:45

Do you have the full birth certificate for George jnr?

This looks like the birth of George jnr father, just confirming he was born a Thomas

England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906
Name: Thomas Wenham
Gender: Male
Birth Date: abt 1823
Christening Date: 9 Nov 1823
Christening Place: Weston, Hertfordshire, England
Father's Name: Caleb Wenham
Mother's name: Peggy

Perhaps he or his son just liked to use the name George, its not unheard of.

At least we know that George jnr did marry twice! Looks like he and Julia seperated, I doubt they divorced as it was very rare in those days and even more expensive

Janet

Janet Report 6 Mar 2012 16:40

The certificate I have for George is 1895 and his father is listed as George, in the Cert that I have george is listed as a Nursery Mans Foreman which would fit in. and his father George is listed as a coachman. The problem I am having is that George the father, I cannot find anything on him!!!

The Birth I could find for George was in 1855, Ware, Hertford and his father is listed at Thomas mother Mary Byott.

Gee

Gee Report 6 Mar 2012 16:09

I have a marriage cert for a George Wenham in the year 1895, with his father's name as George

Is it the 1895 marriage cert that you have because the father on the 1880 marriage to Julia Annie Hale has his father listed as George too?

George (the groom) is listed as a gardner

Witnesses are Francis Riches (Georges mothers second husband) and Mary Ann Ridle or Lidle
