I can see the need for privacy in some instances, living people as you say, but it seemed a shame to lose the pooling of resources and ideas that come with working as a group on thread. :

I agree with that too but we do need to know how they are connected so if mumof4 could give us all a clue as to her hubby's parents and grandparents then we could go from there. If you see what I mean.

Ok folks. My husbands grandfather was Charles Frederick Foreman b 6/4/1924 to parents Charles Henry foreman and Emily Agnes Codrington b who married 31/3/1923in Clerkenwell, London. I have their marriage certificate.
Charles Henry was a bachelor, shop assistant aged 20 living at 27 Affleck St and Emily Agnes a spinster, aged 26 (although research has only found a birth in 1892 making her actually 31) also living at 27 Affleck Street.

Charles Henry's father Charles Foreman was listed as a storekeeper and deceased which is the only thing that doesn't tie up with all the previous research. Emily Agnes's father Joseph James Codrington was listed as a pianoforte maker and was also deceased.
Witnesses on the certificate include the names Frederick Edward Codrington, Matilda Agnes Codrington, Frederick Dow and Ada Foreman.

I'm led to believe that Frederick Dow was the partner of Ada Foreman and it may possibly be the case that if Elijah Charles Foreman had left his family and moved on his son may have been told he was dead.

I was told that there were aunts of Charles Frederick called Ada, Lily, Rose and Freda but this may have been confused over the years!

It seems to me you found the right family, but we still have the mystery of why Elijah Charles didn't seem to bother to marry either Ada or Rose, and certainly we have found a record of the death of first wife Minnie.

I would be tempted to get the birth cert of Charles Henry to find out Ada's maiden name - who knows, it may have been that she was already married to someone else when she met Elijah Charles

I think she may have swopped her names around.
