"Can't find Susan in 1851 as Samuel is head of the household now. However, I have found this Death:-

Name: Susannah Baxter
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1845
Registration district: Bethnal Green
Inferred County: London
Volume: 2
Page: 6 (click to see others on page)

Could this be a coincidence with your other links to Bethnal Green?"

Sorry Dee, totally overlooked this post. Quite relevant.

WHITWELL

8th October 1763/4?
Marriage John Smith and Sarah Betts by Banns

Births/baptisms
1767 Alice May 22/?
1770 John Jan 18/20
1772 James Dec 30/?
1775 Elizabeth July 12/16
1777 Robert Nov 21/24
1779 Samuel Nov 27/29

No Susannah.
However, big gaps which make room for other children recorded in other parishes, but looks like John and Sarah stayed in Whitwell.

GREAT ELLINGHAM

1780 Susannah dau. of John and Sarah Smith Jan 25

HOWEVER.......
1782 Mary dau. of John and Sarah Smith March 24
1784 Sarah dau. of John and Sarah (nee George spinster) Mar 14
1785 Jeremiah son of John and Sarah (nee George spinster) Nov 20

So is Susannah and/or Mary the daughters Of Whitwell John and Sarah, or Great Ellingham John and Sarah?

No marriage record for John and Sarah George

So sorry I haven't been on here for a while. Real life things take up your time, and before you know it, years have passed :(
I recently received a message from another researcher who has the same name in their tree, (Bart. Smith - a possible father to Susannah), but they have no further information I can use.
So I started thinking....we can't find anything about a possible Leake father (as in Samuel), and sadly the name Smith is far too common.
Can I get suggestions as to this line of thinking.....
Perhaps the Susannah I found with mutliple base babes in East Dereham wasn't a floosy and she was indeed married or with a partner/husband, and the church of the time didn't recognise the father? What scenarios would cause this possible explanation? Different religion or faith (ie Catholic/Protestant etc), or perhaps the father had a notorious occupation, or perhaps she was a mistress to a married man?
Could Susannah have been a maid/servant to a noted family and had the children to the master or his son (This is where we look for a prominent Leake family).
Also thinking, can we find a Susannah that has the name Leake in her family, and used the name from there?
Also, even though it is not written in the parish records who Frederics father was (base born), Susannah possibly knew, so would the name have been recorded somewhere.
Thanks.
