because his birth just was not registered ! (and he certainly made himself a lot younger than he was in the 1911 census)

No Sidney with any surname was registered in Marlborough district in 1871 or 1872.

he would only be on the war memorial if he had a link with the village and elsie was living teir so iin the absence of finding cyril under that name i am investigating if there is a link between elsie and cyril.

i saw what you posted but to be honest none of us have hit the mark so we are all following different rrains of thought with the aim of finding him.


Andrew was a bit quicker than me today as i am still onehanded but we were using different sources so slightly fuller info on FMP.

If you read my link some has done research on the war memorial before and published a book but i could not see his name there. i think Anthea needs to find this from maybe her library.

Victor also goes to the gloucester archives each week and has a look up thread.
he may well be able to help.

This book was written by Ken Fowler and Guy Stapleton (a copy is available in the Record Office library). They began work on the book in July 1999 and completed it in 2000. This collection consists of five folders of research notes, copy photographs and photocopies of personal papers of the individual soldiers killed.
Mr Fowler and Mr Stapleton tell the story of the 106 men who lived, worked or trained locally and whose names appear on the memorials in Moreton's High Street and church and in the RAF cemetery. These include 44 men who died in World War One, 8 men who died after their return, 7 men killed in World War Two, and 41 aircrew buried in the RAF cemetery at Moreton.
Details of the men include unit, rank, regimental number, awards, name and address of parents, date and place sent on active service, date and cause of death, and details about the place of commemoration
