CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 29 Nov 2010 21:52

Just looked at my notes.

Ah yes reason for no marriage for William...He was a patient at the "Middlesex Lunatic Asylum", Uxbridge in 1881.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 29 Nov 2010 21:49

Yes Potty...lol....at last getting somewhere.

I always believed I had it right with him being John Adolphus ....I think this pretty much confirms it.

His father William married a Mary....and that John had 2 brothers I knew about.
William born c1820, Frederick born c1823.

William died c1893 and Frederick c1896.

Fred married a Cecelia Lumsden. Have no marriage for William as yet.
I already had this info....which i can now put back in my tree knowing i was right about who John Tuck was.

Fred and his wife had 6 children. 4 boys,2 girls.

Looks like you have cracked it , Paul. Now you need to find who William married!

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 27 Nov 2010 12:50

OK...Update...incase anyone interested.

Emma's parents marriage cert has arrived.

Parents.
John Tuck.........Seaman : Father : William Tuck : Occpt: : Piano Forte Maker
Caroline McCarthy...........: Father : John Cook : Occpt : Labourer.

This points to John Tuck being the John Adolphus Tuck born in Paddington dispite the cert not showing John with a middle name.

The fact the census say he was born In Paddington around 1822 and that the daptism for John Adolphus Tuck states he daptised in Paddington in 1822 and that his father was William Tuck a Piano Forte Maker.

This is good enough for me to now say my John Tuck & John Adolphus Tuck, are one and the same person.

we cant say 100% that the Emma in 1871 with parents John and Caroline is your Emma, as unfortunately we can't 100% confirm from her marriage cert, however from their locations in census, I would say it is likely they are. No other Emma Tuck with father John seems to fit.

Remember also that not ALL baptisms are online, so if John Tuck was born in c1822 in Paddington. 1. his baptism might not be online 2. he might not of been baptised at all 3. although he was supposedly born in Paddington, it doesnt necessarily mean he was baptised there.

You need his marriage cert to Caroline, to confirm his fathers name.

However I have another question, if you dont yet have this marriage cert, how did you find out Caroline McCarthy was formerly Cook? As I would imagine that would only be on her marriage certificate.

Potty

Potty Report 19 Nov 2010 15:46

Paul, just because no other John Tucks b1822 Paddington, can be found it doesn't mean there weren't any. Not everyone was baptised and not all records can be searched.

Potty

Potty Report 19 Nov 2010 15:43

Paul, if you don't have John and Caroline's marriage cert, how do you know that his father was William?

The John is just shown as John, no middle name, in the GRO index and on familysearch, so I don't think Adolphus will be mentioned on the marriage cert.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 19 Nov 2010 15:40

But ...is the 1871 census my Emma family?..as it says her father was born in Paddington...yet there are no other John Tucks born in Paddington around 1822.....other than John A...who fits perfectly.....

If so....then the 1871 census isnt my Emma.....if so..then where is she in 1871?

CelticShiv Report 19 Nov 2010 15:36

I think the marriage cert would be a good next step.

It is unlikely he has any middle name, as it would show on the gro reference. Hence why I dont think John Tuck is the same person as John Adolphus Tuck.

It will then also tell u his fathers name and occupation and also Carolines father and occupation, plus any witnesses that might be related to give further clues.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 19 Nov 2010 15:32

I could buy John & Carolines marriage cert...if would mean spending money i dont have...but its a better choose than buying the otehr birth cert.

With luck it might have Johns middle name...if he has one...
But if it says Caroline McCarthy, formerly Cook..then i have the right birth cert for Emma.
If it says middle name Adolphus..Ill know John parents...sort of.

although there is discrepancy with what she gives as her place of birth. I do think it is likely her parents are John Tuck (not John Adolphus Tuck) and Caroline McCarthy formerly Cook (I think you said) which would mean Caroline was married prior to marrying John Tuck.

do you know when Emma died? Although I expect is was too early to give clues any clues to her date of birth.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 19 Nov 2010 15:17

Her father IS a John Tuck....the census says..mother Caroline.

Caroline McCarthy married a John Tuck in 1856 in Portsea...

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 19 Nov 2010 15:15

I cant find any gro ref for a Emma Tuck born in Portsmouth in 1864.

BUT there are 2 in Shoreditch where some of ther siblings were born.

AND one of those certs has parents John Tuck & Caroline.....The cert i have.

Hence why I cant 100% i have the right parents..or the right cert..or the right Emma!!

None of the info available...corrilates with any other part of the puzzle...so i cant see a final correct answer
