okay missed page two. If you for definate that Emma Tuck's parents were John and Caroline Tuck, and that she was born in 1864 for which corresponds with the cert you have. Then it is most likely you have the correct certificate.

You would have to be very unlucky to have two Emma's born in shoreditch in 1864 with the same first parents names. Tuck I don't think is all that common.

Of course the only way to 100% prove this is to order the other cert and rule it out.

Could you post exactly what it says on her marriage cert.

I.e. what age she gives at marriage, does she mention a usual residence, who are the witnesses, and does it mention her father as John Adolphus Tuck or just John Tuck. I know there is a discrepancy with the occupation as to whether it is Sailor or Tailor.

Siobhan, the only fact we know for sure is that Emma's father was John - from the marriage cert. Given that her POB is often given as Portsmouth , Paul can't really be sure that she is either of the ones registered in Shoreditch in 1864.

Has also been suggested that Paul gets other Birth Cert., he is unable to do so at present.

I have the Parish Records CD of Harston/Hauxton, Cambs.
Can confirm the info. given to you of John Tuck and Elizabeth Jeffery 1858 Marriage is correct. (was in Hauxton)

If one of the marriage references had his middle name displayed it would help ALOT!...lol

Could be Tysser Street?..or Typen Street?

To diff spelling on the birth cert.

Potty Report 19 Nov 2010 14:46

Tyson Street is where the family were living in 1861. I am sure that you have got the right cert for the Emma in 1871 but is she your Emma?

CelticShiv Report 19 Nov 2010 14:48

Can't see a a John, first two sons were Baptised William 1822 and Thomas 1825.
Their father William, Occ. Thatcher. Harston, Cambs.

John Adolphus Tuck Baptised London 1822, Father Occ. Piano Forte Maker...

(I'm in agreement with the Contact lady here!)

Chris :)

(Can't somehow see William the Thatcher, nipping to Paddington, becoming a Piano Forte Maker, then coming back to Cambs. somehow to take up Thatching again!)

No Siobhan,
But the only JohnTuck born c1822..Paddington...as stated in the census, is John Adolphus Tuck.

He is who believe my Emma's father is. If so...William Tuck & Mary Ann Cambridge are her grandparents......which is disputed by the lady i have spoken to.

I did have Johns siblings and parents....but the lady says her John is not my john....but the Adolphus name appears a couple of times in the Mary Cambrige William Tuck family

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 19 Nov 2010 15:02

I guess Im no closer to knowing who her parents were.
I cant say for sure i have the right cert

With only the bapt showing the middle name Adolphus...None of the other records can be said to be him.

I presume that is her in the 1911 census as a widow, with children John and Dorothy as found on find my past

States she had 4 children in total though and occupation is a laundress, living in Portsmouth and stating she was born in Portsmouth. She is living at 6 Alver Road, Kingston, Portsmouth.

I am not convinced her father is John Adolphus Tuck to be honest. No where on any confirmed records for her, has her father been recorded with that middle name.

Chris Ho :) Report 19 Nov 2010 15:06

Well...their first Son William Tuck was Born 26th Jan. 1822...Harston.

John Adolphus Tuck in London, according to Baptism image Baptised Paddington 2nd Jan. 1822

Chris :)
