Find Ancestors

Bouncing back to Margaret again. I have searched yet again, and this time found 2 possible marriages.

I have had a rethink of something that was said about my grandmother, that she had French ancestors. I thought that when I found the Du Lieu link, that was it, but I'm starting to think that there may be another French connection.
I don't have anything else to base my query on, just knowing she had French ancestors, and the fact John Fish doesn't appear to have been recorded as born in England. How can I find any connection? I was thinking perhaps the obvious would be his French name was Jean Poisson, changed to the English John Fish. Jean itself could have been interpreted as John. Or perhaps there is another French surname sounding like Fish. I have had a look and there is indeed a lot of Jean Poissons from the 17th century.
I believe John was born between 1640 and 1660, and spent his life in the Essex area.
And genius' out there who can suggest or detect a possible way to find or eliminate my idea?

Nudging this up for help finding information regarding Margaret Fish. I have looked at surrounding parish records, but to no avail. From what I can find online, no record of her nor her family. I see SEAX is now pay to view, so that eliminates that once wonderful site!

Just found a Mary Pledgar, born 1629/30....Parents Abraham and Mary..a sister to Elizabeth!!!!!!!!!!!

Have just done a repeat search of the Stansted Mountfitchet images from 1638 - end of the records, and no marriages, other baptisms or burials.
There are records for vagabonds, strangers, and travellers, and as no mention of these are in Margaret's record, I would have to presume that her parents lived in the parish. But they were not married there, or stayed there long enough to have more children there or be buried there. Because there is no record of Margaret's burial within a few years, it is possible she survived, or, the family moved soon after her birth.
I did find an interesting marriage that may be of some connection.
Samuel Fish(er) and Mary Pledg(ea)r, married 25/3/1654. William Fish(er) a witness.
John fish married Ellen Bowtell (1660), daughter of Elizabeth Pledgar (1633).
There are no other Pledgar entries that I could see for the same time period.
Coincidence? Connection?
Who would like to help find out?

Nudging this last request up, would like some help to see if this is a real connection!
Any information about Mary would help out a lot (as I have plenty of Pledgar information to work with). Anything on Samuel would be a bonus.

Baptism is not her, definitely 1660 Stansted Mountfitchet.
The marriages are certainly worth looking into.
If we can find one with John Fish as her father, that would be a step in the right direction.

PS Tracey.....I was able to look at the sheep stealing report...damned if I know where I put it now...and John didn't steal the sheep, he reported it and was a witness and testified to the person he saw do it!
I have found a 5th cousin once removed here in Australia that has shared a lot of information, mostly regarding one of the ancestors that was shipped to Australia as a convict.

I am trying a different angle on the search.

I found the record while searching parish entries for Essex.
Margaret's entry could be a link, possibly his sister.

I was able to scour through the St Mary Woolchurch records today..scanned from a book that had been opened for viewing.

These parish register sites only have CD's transcribed from actual books, and make alot of money from them, far too much for my liking.

Always check archive.org first and use phillimore as your search term and the county your looking for or the county and the term parish records, you'll be amazed by the outcome. Thousands of books out of copywrite all scanned in and available free..... thats how these sites get away with it, because the books are out of copywrite!

I'm all about sharing of informatin...but not at an unnessessary cost!
