Just realised you got your posts. That is what you were you were trying to do at first. You asked me how I did it.

Try other variations too.

Search the boards with an advanced search

Ladykira,

Cant manage to get any result with 'boards summary' or 'search trees'. Am I searching correctly?

The results that I am getting contain the words you suggested - but nothing for the whole names/words [except my posts, of course!]

Thank you - I will try this later, as at work at the moment [on a break I might add!!]

Thanks for all your help and advice! [again] I dont know how I would manage without the support from the members of this community. All help received is truly appreciated.

Many thanks.

I have two more tips for you Elaine.

On the boards page at the top it says boards summary.
Click on it and you can search all the boards.

Try Geddington. Alfred Burton Wood, Stephen Richardson Wood, etc

There is an advanced search option too.

At present the system is playing up so hit search and wait a minute and then hit refresh.

Tip two

Go to search trees and use the terms Wood and Geddington and you will find others research wood families in Geddington.

My grandaughter is gorgeous.

I am shattered.

Some health issues at the moment.

Glad you found the wills. Post it if you can on Alfred's thread.

The census you discounted earlier is probably relating to one of Isaiah's brothers children. Keep it in mind. There were not that many in Geddington so likely to be connected at some point.

Wot is a Lust Examination? If he is a bankrupt, is it not a misprint for a Bust Examination? Though that has its own implications....

Done it!

And - no - before you ask - I still havent posted on the Geddington website, as you advised me to do ages ago.

I will do that now - who knows what it will bring up?

lainie39 Report 15 Dec 2009 20:36

I thought it may be you!!! How are you?

I have a 'lust' examination on a regular basis!! lol I see nothing strange in this!!

Did I tell you that I found the Taylor wills at the archives? [it was a long time ago now, so cannot remember how far we got] I have still to write a piece for that nice man Neil at the Honorable Society of Specticle Makers [?] - my computer has crashed since then and had to be restored, so I may have mislaid his address - but one day I will write a piece for him!!

I think you may be correct - that 50 does not hurt as much as 30 or 40!!!

How are you and yours? grand-daughter OK?

lainie39 Report 15 Dec 2009 19:18

Ladykira,

How do you know about the 'Taylor' side of my family?

How many google pages did you get through before you found this? [I tend to get bored after about 30 - and when I entered Stephen Richardson Wood I was getting some weird and wonderful stuff!] What words did you search with?

Actually - what you found fits in perfectly with a clue that has been bugging me for some time. Stephen's brother, Alfred Burton, appears in a book of 'prominent people' in Ilkeston [found at the library] - he also appears on the Ilkeston and District Local History Society website
http://www.ilkestonhistory.org.uk/familyhistory%20portraits%202.htm

The book entry says that he 'succeeded his elder brother, Mr S R Wood' in 1866 - the meaning behind these words have puzzled me for quite some time! Now I know the answer - Stephen went bancrupt, so Alfred carried on the business!!!! I thought that Stephen had died and left the business to his brother Alfred!! Just shows how wrong you can be!?

Many, many thanks!

Elaine

google again.

your family have a fairly high profile don't they. Looks like h e became a provisions dealer like one of his brothers. Did you find anything more on the Taylor' side?
