Hi there,
Good News. I got the BC for Bridget John today, and YES she is my mother.

Bridget John born June 13th 1907
Mother Margaret John .. (My grandmother Margaret John Pearce)
Address
Grove House,
Englwys Cummin.

Well Done Janey and Viv. You were so right..

For some unknown reason she did not call her 'Pearce' and why she should change her name to Rose Probert, is something I will never find out.... Well - at least I know her true name.

I did mention that I was contacted through GU ' a distant cousin' He browsed through my tree, He had already foung Margaret John Pearce's Baptism. 22.2.1880. Until then I did not know that her middle name was John.....
I cannot thank you enough.
I have had no reply from Laugharne School. I will ring them..

Well , I do not think I will get any more on my mother.

It means a lot to me, just to know..
And once again I THANK you both.

This is Edith.

Births Sep 1901 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pearce Edith Selina Carmarthen 11a 1211
****************************************************************

Maybe you would order that too Christine as it may have other surnames on for her mother?

Owen still does not appear anywhere on birth regs under the name Pearce in 1902/3/4 in the area.
Nor of course Rose,so Ediths is the only one to be found,so far.

I think a search of the registers in Carmarthen to start with may be called for.
You have her date and place of birth so that may help.
Will have to think some more.

PM from Christine..

New message to Vivienne j and Janey,

From Christine
Just heard from the GRO with regards to my 'Bridget John' I applied for a birth certificate as suggested, on the 27th Sept., I had a e mail tonight telling me I have been given a refund of £4.!!

They are saying that the mother for Bridget John was not Margaret Pearce. If I still wanted the certificate I am to re apply !!!
I am very disappointed... after reading our info over and over !!
It started to make sense.
I think I had better send for the BC anyway, what do you think ? Thank you both for you hard work.
*********************************************************

Christine says she is resending for it tomorrow.

Many thanks for all you have done. I will be going to Laugharne (again) I will do as you have suggested.
I left a (Added info) this morning,
I rememberd how a 'family tree' member, who made contact , told me that he had found my grandmothers middle name as being 'johns' in the baptism for her..
Thank you again,
I will send off for a birth certificate,
Best wishes
Chris

Christine..
A thought that crossed my mind after logging off last night.

As the area your mother was brought up was and is fairly small maybe you should check School records,if you havent already done so.

Library or records office.
They may be in either Haverfordwest where the majority of pembrokeshire records seem to be now,or in Carmarthen.

There is always the possibility of them being in the National library of Wales in Aberystwyth of course.

Great work Ladies! That looks promising about Bridget John.

I do hope you come back to the thread when you get the certificate Christine as we are all still learning research techniques and it would be great to know the outcome.

Sorry, Christine, but you are snarking about something I didn't say.

You're not interested in the rest of the family. That's nice. I didn't suggest you should be.

But you are asking strangers to take an interest in your Rose, to help you find her.

When you want others to help find someone, you offer ALL the information you have about that person -- which very definitely includes the names of her siblings. The things YOU know that no one else does.

For pity's sake, if we had known she had siblings Edith and Owen we would have spent a lot less time and probably money finding the household in 1911, and finding this Bridget John who is someone I would certainly be very curious about.

Christine

Christine Report 22 Sep 2009 23:50

Thank you Viv, I will do that , The Pearces always used the same names right the way down through the generations, She was the first Rose,
Make some sense I suppose.
Also interested in Frank Probert in Llanelli in 1911... not a million miles from Laugharne.
regards

Christine..
It will only be a waste of time if you dont send for the birth certificate of Bridget John to check it out and make sure it is not your mothers and that she changed her name at a later date,as often happened and is not illegal unless it is for fraudulent purposes.

And for £7 it wont break the bank too much.

And to find a person you often have to find the others around them too.

Christine

Christine Report 22 Sep 2009 23:41

It is Rose I am interested in not her sibblings. Sorry if you were misled.

I did say a while back, that it looks as if I will never find out the truth about my mother. Not interested in the others. I have 395 names in my family tree, but just wanted to find out about my mother,

thanks for your hard work, sorry Viv for wasting your time.
Regards

"Some one contacted me about my family tree, and told me that he had found Margaret 'Johns' Pearce."

Christine, I don't know what that means. "Found" her -- where??

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 22 Sep 2009 23:37

Christine ... you said that about Owen and Edith Selina *after* we'd been searching the 1911 census etc. and "found" them! It's pointless to "find" things that aren't lost.

Viv is spending her own money to look at 1911 search results. I went through the very tedious process of identifying the Elizabeth living with a Margaret and then the Margaret living with an Elizabeth, and then who's living with a Margaret and an Elizabeth, and which Margaret and Elizabeth they're living with ... kind of wasted time.

And again -- what do you know about Owen and his birth details??

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Sep 2009 23:33

She did Janey...

Owen Pearce
and
Edith Selina Pearce are my mothers sibblings

Christine

Christine Report 22 Sep 2009 23:31

Janey, I did tell you that Owen Pearce was my mothers sibbling, also Edith Selina.
Some one contacted me about my family tree, and told me that he had found Margaret 'Johns' Pearce. Where the Johns has come from , I do not know. Two sisters died in three months, Bridget and Jane, I found out that ther was an epidemic in Laugharne, and lots of children died at that time.

Added info- Contacted by a distant relative. He found out the baptism details . This is where it came from -Margaret Johns Pearce

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 22 Sep 2009 23:29

Yes, Viv -- but somehow **Christine knew about him**.

It would have made searching the 1911, for starters, a lot easier if we'd known that.

What do you know about him, Christine???

Margaret's child, or the child of another child of William and Elizabeth?
