Did your gran leave a will?

Yes I will ask her that, but I think she made clothes as mum wouldnt have recornised her as a dressmaker. You see mum told me she was a dressmaker before I looked at the certificate.
I have just noticed she was a dressmaker on her wedding cert as well in 1910.

Didn't your mum's siblings think it strange that their father's name wasn't on their birth cert when their parents were married?

Mum was given hers in 1953. It was a small one.
I have since found out that her eldest brothers wife was asked to get them all a small cert. When she asked her husband why they all had King on, he told her but this only came out much, much later.
All grans processions were lost in the war when she was not only bombed out once but twice.

That's a shame - no chance of a photo of Mr King then!

Were the children christened? Just wondering what the entry in the baptismal register says.

No we have no photos of anyone when they were young. Ronald was a bit of a loner & still lived in the old house long after gran had died & the street had been cleared for demolishion. He left just before they knocked the house down leaving all grans things in the house. They all got chucked on the bonfire I am told.

My cousin says not. She has looked for the records. Mum thinks she has so Im not telling her any different. She believes in christening & I know it would upset her. Havent told her about her grandfather killing himself either.
I think she has took the news of her father very well but Im not going to push my luck

Your mum could have been christened at a non-conformist church such as the local Methodist church rather than at an Anglican church which would explain why your cousin hasn't found anything.

My cousin checked the records at St John the baptist, Timber Hill where her father was baptisted & Holy Trinity the parish she lived in.
Her father was baptised even though he was born before she married. Im not sure if he is her husbands or not.

Oh my goodness! The plot thickens. Time for bed I think!!!!

Did she have ANY children with her husband?

*♫*♥*Janice*♥*♪* Report 19 Oct 2008 23:28

Yes she had 3.
A daughter born in 1911 died in 1917
A son born in 1914 died in 1914
and my aunt Gertrude born 1915 died 2008
She was a very busy lady but she had a lot of heartache

Janice Report 19 Oct 2008 23:29

Did the boy born in 1908 have a middle name too?

*♫*♥*Janice*♥*♪*

*♫*♥*Janice*♥*♪* Report 19 Oct 2008 23:31

William James Blake (no father entred) Blake being his mothers maiden name.
My cousin thinks gran didnt marry because she wasnt 21 & her parents wouldnt let her but she was in fact 22 when she married Charles.

He became the Sherrif of Norwich in 1963

Janice

Janice Report 19 Oct 2008 23:34

Which does suggest that Charles wasn't his father, doesn't it! Wonder if the father was James something or a Mr James.

You know, I never thought of that

*♫*♥*Janice*♥*♪* Report 19 Oct 2008 23:35

The James must have come from somewhere, I havent come across another James on my research. Not connected to this family anyway

Yet she taught all her children not to grow up like she did. Mum is very old fashioned
