Thank you for those kind words Gerri (Mrs Bucket) - just be careful though, my head might grow bigger!

Anyway, I always enjoy helping where I can!

I do hope Joan can be of help here but as you say, if she can't, not many people can!

Best wishes,

thanks for all your work yesterday as well,

just checked all my old documents, and it seems I have been searching for the 'real' kathleen since 2004 (longer than I thought!!), all my tracing took me back to Kathleen Grace. so really pleased to find her, what is so annoying is that some of the clues were under my nose, but could not see them, wood and tree etc i suppose, thankfully Dea found them. Finding the real lady means a lot to me, for a lot of emotional reasons.

Yes, she is on here - if you do a thread search for Joan Allan (or Allen) you will find many of her threads.

She also has a website and is VERY happe for you telephone her direct and will give you loads of help and advice!

I know she is happy to put her tel no up on here but I would prefer to send it to you by pm.

I will do that now - and her web address.

Give her a ring - I know she will be of help to you!

Have you heard about a lady called Joan Allen? - If anyone can help you it would be her! - she has a great deal of experience in these matters!

I purchased a special deal findmy past offered 2 years ago, (when it was 1837online) a 2 year deal which runs out in December this year, was wondering if to re-subscribe or try out the Ancestry site.
the findmy past 1901 census only has a few counties set up, which is a pain.

Do you know if it's possible through any site to trace and find someone now, it's along story but have been trying to find my mother (Sheila), kates daughter
for a few years but not had any success

and the birth was 1883 not 1863 ! - don't put the wrong year when you order it!

Hi,

Not sure which Catherine you have found as you say you have searched from 1862 to 1886 and found one in 1863 ???

Do you mean this one which I mentioned at the very beginning of my posts to you:

Birth:
Births Sep 1883
Irving Catherine Halifax 9a 424

This would fit quite well with the death cert and appears to be the only one!

Yes - I usually order from GRO - put the full reference and only pay £7 (although sometimes local register offices are quicker)

I used to use Findmypast but now use another which has more facilities for matching couples in certain years - I prefer it and it works out much cheaper. I think I pay about £35 for a year but I was spending a LOT more than that on credits on findmypast.

If you want to have a look for future reference the address is:

P.S. - I know what you mean by other people not understanding the excitement - my husband is just the same!

Hi,

I've just searched the birth index for 1862 to 1886, and found 1 Catherine born in Halifax, so I assume this must be her, 3rd quarter of 1863, which make her death 1 year out, but I assume that this is quite normal for the times, since not every one know every one both year.

I normally use findmypast for searching BMD and then order certificates from the GRO, is this the 'normal' or best way to do it, or is there another way. Your help much appreciated since you obviously know what you doing.

My father’s side is much easier to do, traced back to 1880 times with no problems (so far!), but Kathleen gave me so many headaches, my wife could not understand why I was so excited last night after find out the ‘real’ Kathleen, lol

Have to go in 2 minutes but will get back when I can.

The trick is do NOT be too specific.

To find both of them on 1901

put in first name 'kate' - surname - use a wild card - i.e. put in irv* - no more.

birth parish - put in halifax

that's all. click search and it brings them both up!

Let me know how you get on!

I believe Ancestry is the best one but you need to know how to 'work' it.

Do you have access to Ancestry - if so, where is it not showing Kate for you?

Dea x

Barry

Barry Report 5 Sep 2008 09:47

so is the Ancestry site the better one for the census?

as I've tried to look up the Kate Irvene on here and it's not coming up?

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2008 09:42

Hi,

I think I have added most of what I have on here now but I will go through notes when I get a minute to see if there are any more 'bits + pieces'.

I work mostly on the Ancestry site for census details and then follow all the marriages etc - mainly on FreeBmd and Family History site, then re-do the census's to try and connect them all up.
