This is the only Joseph Riley marriage that came up on freeBMD between 1881 & 1891 with apossible spouse called Susan.

I'm not too sure how far Blackburn is from Dewsbury.

One of the girls birth certs would confirm mothers maiden name to enable you to find definite marriage, then that cert would give you Josephs fathers name.
It's really the only way to be sure If he's yours.

Joy I think you may be right about Frank being in Wakefield prison in 1891.

There are threeFranks in 1881 born c1871.

One born Ripley......accounted for in 1891. 1901 wife Mary
One born Winshill....not accounted for in 91. Think this ones age was mistranscribed as 30 instead of 20 in 1891 & place of birth as Alfreton. 1901 birth year right..wife Jane birth Alfreton.
& your Frank born Chesterfield.....showing as Francis born Chesterfield in 91.

I've just got excited thinking I had found him giving his place of birth as Keyworth Nottinghamshire but then checked back in 1881 & found a Francis O Hallam born Keyworth so I assume it's him.

Going to double check now that this Frank doesn't appear any earlier.

EDIT Joy I think this is him. I've been back & checked 1881. There was only one Frank showing as born Yorkshire. In 1901 there are two the one above that I think is yours & the Frank showing in 1881 He is accounted for in 1901.

Got to do Taxi duty now for my Daughter.

1901 Hannah is still in Brightside, Widowed. Living at 20 Osbourne Street. Living on her own means.

William, I think is written as Wm Riley in 1901 giving his birthplace as Sheffield..

Can't find Robert's death reg either.

Scrath the William I found inin 1901. I've just tracked him back to 1891 and he's married to a Clara as in 1901 son of a Thomas Riley.

Are you sure that Wm Riley that you found in 1901 is yours?

The 1891 census says he is single but the 1901 census entry you mention says he has children ranging in age from 12 to 1.

I found one entry for 1901 for a Wlliam H Riley born Yorkshire as a boarder living in the same Ecclesiastical parish as he was living in in 1891 with his mother.
