Hi T

Sorry to hear about your problems with CD - must be v frustrating.
Wondered whether you might be able to give me any advice on research in USA.
Just found out my husband's birth mother went to Vermont in late 1950s and was hoping to look up some ancestors there.
Not on Ancestry at present would you recommend it?

Thanks
Sue

Dear T

Any chance of a lookup for GOATER - believe some of my ancestors emigrated to Canada and the USA in the early 1850s.

Fingers crossed

Many thanks

Maria

Sue..

Not familiar with USA site as such - but the only thing I can think of is to find a possible marriage of your husband's birth mother. Or find someone who has access to directory for those years to find her or something like that. Someone may have access to US Immigration and see if she came with someone or more info.. Like I said, I don't know much about USA parts.

Sorry,

T

Hi Traci

Yes, that's HIM, my great grandfather Clementine Harrison, funny him being down as a girl LOL

Thanks for looking that up, now i've got a DOB for him.

Is it possible to do a search by parents? John & Elizabeth Harrison, also looking for their other children Sara & Florence or any others I don't know about.

Thanks for the Clemments but I don't think there mine.

When I posted this I don't think there'd be any chance of finding him & still can't beleive you have.

Don't get rid of the CD!

Cheers

Johnathon

Johnathon..

I've clicked on John Harrison and Elizabeth (without surname).. Nothing for others I'm afraid.

It is searchable by parents only.

Hi T, Don't worry about it, it's your thoughfullness and kindness that we all appreciate.

Please don't be disheartened, if only one request is successfull then someone out there will have managed to advance their family's history and that in itself is worth everthing as it's something that will last a lifetime and YOU will have had some influence in that.

We all appreciate your help and offer, I'd like to wish you well in your own research, remember you can't win them all and they are so elusive arn't they.

Good Luck and thanks again, Lou

Hi T.
Perhaps we'll have more luck with:
John Pearl, born 1850 or 1855. Parent was Margaret. John was thought to be born in Canada.

Not much to give you, but that's all I have, I'm sorry. Thank you for your help.

Note: Parents were possibly Richard and Margaret Leonard Pearl.

Hi, T. Thanks for your very kind offer.

Can you find the birth of Harty (listed occasionally as Harley) Wilson Morden. He birth is mid 1880s at Deseronto, Ontario, Canada.

His father may likely be Cornelius (There were two Conrelius there, I believe, each with a middle name). Harty had a sister, Eleanor, born in the same area approx 1878. Not sure the names of and brothers and sisters, but I just cannot find Harty, and I would really like to.

Many thanks for your help.

Ciao.

Barry and T, in case it helps, his birthdate is supposedly 26 July 1885 (sometimes the records are incorrect).

Hi, T, please excuse me answering Lisa on your thread, but I believe this is helpful (perhaps to you in your kind search for me.)

Hi, Lisa, nice to hear from you, I do hope that you are keeping well.

Yes, I have this information for Harty Wilson Morden, thank you for the heads up. As it is his attestation paper, neatly typed, I took it to be 100% correct - this was my first port of call for him.

I followed this by buying (downloading) a lot of papers for him from National Archives in London - good quality and clear, too!

Further research shows his sister, Eleanor, crossed into USA, Detroit, in 1900 aged 22. She lived there as a (student) nurse. Harty went to visit her, I found.

I know from her birth entry father was Cornelius (H, I think, I have nothing to hand at present) Morden. However, there were two Cornelius Morden in Desoronto in the early 1880s; both died within a short time - and both before Harty was born. Doh! This blow to my research is why I am trying to establish his birth. Surprisingly, I haven't found it.

Why do I want him? I have a lovely four page hand written letter that 2nd Lt. HW Morden wrote on army headed paper 19 Sep 1919 as a glowing reference for my father, who served under him. I hope to try and trace the family and give them a copy of everything etc.

However, I have his record of returning to Canada Oct 1919 to Toronto and then he was discharged. I don't know what happened to him since then. He always gave Eleanor as his Next of Kin. I somehow think Eleanor and Harty did not marry, in which case the line fizzled out, sadly.

There were generations of Mordens at:

http://www.qschooner.com/morden561.html
(This link has been discontinued, so I can't get information from anyone there.)

Harty is toward the very end of this huge amount of data.

Thanks as always for your input, Lisa.
T, I shall be grateful if you are able to locate the birth of Harty for me. Thank you very much.

Finally, Lisa, the sad fact is it's unlikely I'll ever find his death because of the 100 year hold off in Canada. A very great shame indeed.

(Edit 19 Feb 2012. I found Harty Wilson Morden married Jennie Maud Killmaster - born Port Rowan, Ontario, 01 Jan 1883 - on 02 August 1930 at Vancouver. Neither has their death listed in BC - which goes to 1988 at present. Wonder if they returned to Ontario or went to USA where Harty's sister may still have lived in Michigan? No children; both in their late 40s when they married,)

Take care.

Ciao,

Barry

Hi, T.

Thank you very much for looking for Harty. Ref the LDS entry you noted - this is interesting!

I say interesting because although I found Harty - and some variations in his birth dates - I could not find him sometime ago! I raised a thread here about a year ago for 'not finding / disppearing entries' on LDS.

One far seasoned researcher than me said that because of the amount of records LDS has on their system that it was cycled every so often. (This made sense about missing data.) I contacted a family centre and asked them about this and they denied it! (Surprise!)

However, a possible 1780s birth for my GtGtGrandmother in Sussex has long since disappeared from LDS, so I really don't know what to believe!

I shall keep looking to find more for Harty, but I have not found him on further census. Thanks again for your help (and the use of your thread to address Lisa.)

(Edit 19 Feb 2012. I found Harty Wilson Morden married Jennie Maud Killmaster - born Port Rowan, Ontario, 01 Jan 1883 - on 02 August 1930 at Vancouver. Have a lovely weekend.

Hi T. Thank you again for your help. I know the Pearls lived in Wisconsin and Washington and have read that they were from "Canada". (Doesn't that narrow down the search, eh?)

I'm researching the Pearls for an American friend. As soon as we found his distant rellie who said the Pearls lived in Canada, we both thought I might be able to help (since my family is from Canada). More googling I guess. Thank you again for looking though, eh?

Hi Barry. I'll reply tonight. :) (Off to work now.)
