I've been scouring through lots of old news this week, to show everyone what great things you can uncover in the British Newspaper Archive on the site. As the Queen's Jubilee is fast approaching, I thought it would be a nice idea to search for all things Jubilee and royalty. From Jubilee named horses winning races, a newly built royal train, to Diamond Jubilee unique souvenirs and gifts, here's what I found:
During Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1897 there were a number of great adverts being posted in papers.
As you can see advertising was just as important 115 years ago as it is today. Trying to make Dunlop tyres sound appealing to buy if we want to be on trend with Jubilee fashions. I wonder if they got much business. Would anyone fall for that type of advertising today?
I also found some fantastic news articles detailing her procession, including all the great gifts she received. Take a look at this article in The Daily News 1897. It shows Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee official programme. I wonder how similar it is to this year's timetable?

- It was announced in The Graphic 1898 that the Diamond Jubilee crowd were a lot thirstier than the Golden Jubilee. The quantity of beer drunk per head of the population went from 27 gallons to 30 gallons in just 10 years.
