Yes, but it could take some time, hours if not days to sort out the database and rebuild all the indexes. Shutting down is probably not an option for the site managers. Far better to manage damage limitation and keep the site up and running.

"Since Genes are trying to fix the site they may find it necessary to prevent parts of the site being accessed for short periods."
I wish it would be closed down for the time that it takes to fix it.

Ken you are quite right.

I would also say that continually reporting the same problem on multiple threads is probably serving no useful purpose.

GR management acknowledged first thing today that there were big issues over the weekend. The chances are that there is a database integrity problem which will require some form of rebuilding, all of which takes time and whilst this is happening, time out and locking messages will continue.

wisechild, when you get an error message straight away when trying to access s resource it is probably because that resource has been locked for some reason. Since Genes are trying to fix the site they may find it necessary to prevent parts of the site being accessed for short periods.

Error, Error, Service unavailable Etc Etc.
What I don´t understand is it´s not everything on a board. Some posts will open, some are showing the error message.
This site worked perfectly well until it was taken over.
Since then it´s been a disaster.

This is absolutely terrible ..... it's a horror show!!

It is the middle of the night, UK time

50% of the time I get the OOPS page, 25% I get the ERROR

success comes about 25% of the time .......... and postings are taking 6 or 7 attemtps to be successful.

PLUS another added wrinkle

avatars are migrating from one person to another within the thread!

I have been told several times to be wary of deleting cookies

................ it removes all cookies for all sites.

so you need to sign in again on ALL your sites

which may need an elephant's memory for all the different passwords one uses, if one believes the advice given by all those "experts" :-D

Still getting error messages when trying to submit replies on threads

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 22 Oct 2011 12:02

Improvements to Message Centre - this was dated at 3.54

This was one of the threads I was trying to read between 6 and 7 and was getting all the error messages.

As mentioned on this thread
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/suggestions/thread/1283645

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 22 Oct 2011 11:55

If there was an announcement then it was not flagged as New

I always check

Kense

Kense Report 22 Oct 2011 11:51

But GR had posted an earlier message at 3:54pm on the Announcements board and Joy had also posted the comment from Facebook.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 22 Oct 2011 11:46

And your point is what exactly?

Between 6 and 7 pm yesterday I had at least 20-25 error messages. Well before that thread from GR was posted. Did what I was told on the error message and reported the problem twice. But no surprise there has been no feedback from GR to messages via Support Team.

The still was unuseable.

Came back on sometime after 9pm and the site was still a problem. So gave up again.

This message was posted after the comment from GR (10:16 pm) so the error messages were still happening
