Sylvia,

The issue is not just a question the number of users that are logged on to the system but rather the sheer amount of data that has to be processed to satisfy a particular user request. The problem can just as easily happen with just one user logged in.

This is why GR can't replicate the problem in their testing. There simply is not enough volume of data in their test environment to cause the error to kick in.

Thank you Phil :-)

I really would hate to leave this site

But I would point out that the errors do not all happen during times of heavy usage of the servers

............... I'm on here for varying lengths of time during the period from about 8 pm UK time to 6 or 7 am UK time.

Most of the errors and OOPS that I get are actually between midnight and early morning (say 5 to 6 am).

There's not that many of us around on the Boards at that time!

I think he means he has been concentrating on errors arising from using the boards, rather than errors in other areas of the site.

Estelle has mentioned on previous occasions that adverts are handled by third party suppliers so are probably not something Phil is directly responsible for.

Thank you Phil for at least acknowledging you are attempting to deal with this problem

But why have the boards section had your attention rather than sorting out the error messages and the adverts etc

Just so none of feel like this is being ignored, I am having to rewrite substantial chunks of code to try and resolve these issues. The problem I have is that (a) this takes a great deal of time and (b) there is a huge amount of testing to be done to verify that thinks still work and also that they will resolve the issues. The last week for me has been all about the boards section, and I hope to release these changes in the coming week. The main problem I have from a development perspective is that these "errors" only occur when the servers are handling mass requests, and this cannot be replicated in a normal test environment.

I appreciate (believe me I genuinely do) your frustration as not only do I see the errors too when using the site and boards, but I know for every error I see, other members are getting fed up too.

I know my comments won't make the matter any easier to deal with, but I really hope by the end of the week we may see a decline in the errors pages being displayed at your end.

Best regards
Phil

On and off since the problems first began, l have had probs but nothing too bad.
l have had the dating page a few times but thought that was my fault. Still getting ERROR message when trying to post replies (mostly).

It is'nt good enough, and its bl---y frustrating.
l don't have a tree on here blinky good thing l don't.....grrrrrrrr

jude... :-D....gritting my teeth

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Nov 2011 19:14

I also still have problems, not as bad as some people ......... eg, I've not yet been thrown off the site, or sent to Dating, etc

........ and I almost never work on my tree on here, or even go to look at it, so I have no idea whether that works for me or not

I do spend a lot of time on the Community Boards.

...... and I regularly find it impossible to move to the page I want on threads

I get OOOPS, and Error at least half a dozent times in each session

I have found ways to beat this .................. for example, if I want to go to the most recent posts on the last page, and the thread has opened on page 1. I do NOT click on that last page in the More Pages drop down. That almost always fails, especially on long threads. Instead I click on the 10 page sequence 2 or 3 before the one I want. That almost always works. Then I move from there to the page I do want to see.

It's time-consuming .......... but actually works faster than getting OOOPS 4 or 5 times in a row before getting where I want to go.

Like Island, I've given up complaining ........................ when one is ignored, one does tend to do that

and ignoring complaints appears to be the new approach by GR

That's fine ............................ they'll gradually lose all their old guard, the ones who have made GR's name for being soooooooooo good at providing help to others.

Then they'll lose newcomers who can't be bothered waiting ages for things to happen

Then they'll be able to absorb GR into FMP

and claim a very large tax loss :-D

Maybe that has been their business plan all along!

I do know that I am very close to the end of my patience with this site.

........... and that I will soon be voting with my feet, unless things improve.

I shall be sorry to lose the good friends I've made on here ................. but there are ways and means of keeping in contact, and other excellent sites where we can all meet up.

........... and those other sites WORK, with very few problems hampering members activities. Not least, is the fact that many of those sites are also FREE

Interesting that free sites don't have the problems of this one :-S

"I use the site extensively most days"

That'll be it then. IGP's wearing it out :-0.

I still get error messages and sometimes the site is slow but I just can't be bothered to complain anymore. I can't see it ever being up to par with other sites because it's managed by people who seem not to even be in communication with each other

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 3 Nov 2011 15:17

But the site is still not fixed.

Was getting error messages again last night

I can use FMP, Ancestry and Scotlandspeople without any problems.

Those gremlins are still afoot here! I am not happy that I have to log in several times a day and then lose the search that I have spent time looking for.

Also it sometimes takes several minutes to find anything.
I know they are aware of the problems but with the amount of money we pay for subsciptions they should have done something about it
