Hello Sylvia in Canada ...................

I'm sorry to take so long responding to you recent comment: How are you getting on with the Cadds???"

I have just returned from a short Holiday, so Genes has taken a back seat.

My Family History has developed in many directions but has NOT included any further work in the Mixbury direction.

I hope you are well and continue to help the many new Genes members who have so many problems.........

PeeEmm :-)

PeeEmm

nice to hear from you!

I have been working on mine in fits and starts, as different records come on line!

Yesterday, it was hit or miss as to whether I could open 2 messages in my Inbox in succession, or whether I had to leave Inbox and Messages, and then re-enter.

Haven't had that one for quite a while! :-(

Thanks for your reply Sylvia.

[with fingers crossed} I seem to have been lucky with the site at the present time, very few errors [can't remember the last problem!] the tree opens for me with no problem, messages have been sent and received without a hitch. I have viewed updates and found that is also smooth.
Most of my family searching is done through findmypast and when confirmed is then added here on the GR tree. My trurning point seemed to be when Genes advised that I change my browser to Google Chrome. This I did and all seems to be OK now. I keep a separate icon on the desktop for Chrome and only use it for GR and FMP, all other work on the PC is via the bog standard microsoft browser and the Thunderbird e-mail thing.
You have made me contemplate going back down my tree to the Blencowe - Mixbury - and Cadd connections..... but don't hold your breath.
As a matter of interest - a few years ago we went to the Mixbury area and had a meeting with a local vicar to get a copy from his Parish register of a Birth entry for a Blencowe. It was then that we discovered the problem with tracing some family members. The Mixbury area is slap bang at the junction of three counties: Northampton, Oxfordshire and Bucks. So in some instances the Registrations might be in any one of these three places ...............

Regards

Peter :-)

There is little point in continually debating what works what doesn't work, which browser works, which doesn't work etc etc ad nauseum.when it comes to the
"Dreaded Time Out Message"

So, as we have said on many occasions, it is those members with large trees, members who have tens of thousands of message board postings, and those who have lots of personal messages who are impacted.most.

Bottom line is that GR's database management system .and / or its servers runs out of steam if the quantity of data that it has to extract and process gets too large.

IGP is correct when he says that GRU database engine and back end servers "run out of steam" when a query returns a very large data set eg PMs. However this is by design not by accident.

Nothing man made is infinite and that includes computer systems. If GRU continually adjusted parameters to accommodate such queries then either costs would rise ( and subs ) or more routine queries would take longer. So they don't.

That being said it is possible to return a rather more graceful error message to the user than a default "Error!"

Clicked at least 5 times on logo and was still on error message.

Closed the tab, opened another and straight back to error message

Finally after clicking on logo at least 10 times got back to home page

I gave up earlier, went and did something more interesting ~ the ironing! :-D

Dinner is cooking, so I thought I'd try here again.

Six attempts ~ got the Error :-P Message.

I'm not jumping for joy, because I expect to get another Error :-P Message when I hit submit.

I'll do my usual ~ copy this message ~ before hitting submit, then I'll wait for the message to appear multiple times.

:-(

Whoever you are at GR ~ STOP MESSING ABOUT!!!!!!

got the Error message when I tried to get onto GR.co.uk about an hour or so ago.

I went to the .za site, and got on with no problem.

The site should not be so busy at 3 or 4 am UK time.
