Not a disappointment Andy, we all have our own opinions and beliefs. I know I have experienced some things that can't be explained. There isn't always a logical explaination for everything that happens, nor is it always a coincidence.

Wow, thank you for all your replies, I didn't expect this thread to last this long. Dizzy D, did you get a drawing? What was it? Len, that's really interesting. The belief in hauntings, ghosts, spirits, enities or whatever you want to call them has been around for thousands of years, and stories have alway been similar, in the ways people have felt, sensed or seen them. There must be something in it, and just because it is not of solid matter, science has always had a tendency to dismiss it. It's good to see that science is not quite as sceptical now.

another one. A few weeks before my sister was killed she took home a little kitten which was dying. My Mum nursed it but it died so she took it and buried it. A few weeks after Pat was killed my Mum and Dad sat in their kitchen.A kitten came running in and up the stairs so my dad went after it. No sign and no way it could have got out. My Mum always said the kitten came to let them know Pat was alright. Germaine x

One incident that sticks in my mind. In our first house (there had only ever been one previous owner) Well one night my little boy about 2 at the time was crying. I went up to him. He said the man said you would come Mummy . I questioned him further all he would say I was crying for you and the old man said. Shush your mummy is coming. His room was the back one which when we moved in was full of shelves and bit and bobs as though it had been used as a hobbies room. He never saw anything else, we used to hear footsteps walking above us when down stairs though never saw anything. But the house had a lovely homely feeling. Germaine x

Sooner or later it will be generally accepted throughout the scientific world that consciousness, although associated with the brain (not necessarily only the human brain), is not a brain function and can exist independently. It may leave the body and return. Published studies from Rinjstate Hospital in Holland and Freiberg University in Germany indicate that consciousness is able to operate independently of the body. Other studies from all over the world support the hypothesis The extent and power of the mind, (another word for consciousness - as is 'soul' or 'spirit'). These findings have been published in the British Psychological Journal and the Lancet. A sceptic is a person who has never had personal experience of an unembodied mind and who does not wish to do so as it means revising a life's philosophy. Or it can be a person unendowed with lateral thinking ability. There is no reason why, under the laws of physics, consciousness should not separately exist. The existence of ghosts (derived from archaic English for 'spirit') is both feasible and probable. The negative opinion voiced by some is called 'pathological disbelief'. There are those capable of saying 'Even if it was true, I wouldn't believe it'. It's almost like a religious creed where you have to conform on pain of being consigned to the flames of hell (a medieval myth). With some scientists, to admit to the paranormal would be an admission of error - which is very difficult for scientists and politicians. However, with the advent of quantum mechanics and ongoing research, they are already practicing their U-turns. There is also the matter, for many scientists, of a life's work (and income) radically changing - which is reason enough to resist a change in philosophy. The paranormal is not hard to prove; it is becoming increasingly more difficult to disprove. It is just hard to get it accepted in Western culture. However, slowly but surely physicists are getting there. There are a lot of strange things being discovered in the cosmos. Len

Oh yes, we have had loads of things happen. My husband dosnt belive, and thought it was all a load of rubbish until something happend to him. He was having a bath when he said it felt like someone was stroking his arm, all the hairs on it stood up, then the towel which was on the towel rail flew across the room. He shot out of the bath, grabbed the 1st thing he could and ran downstairs. I found him dripping wet, in the middle of the living room, holding a hand towel over his bits. Another time he was watching tv when a pot plant near him suddenly started shaking that much, he thought all the leaves would come off. We also used to smell a very strong perfum, which has now followed us to 3 different houses. All the above things happend in the 1st house. When we moved into it I told Dave there was something in the kitchen that I didnt like . The dog used to bark and howl with all his fur standing up at something in the corner. Another time Dave was looking for some electrical tape, and I was looking for some asprin as I had a wicked headache. We looked high and low for both these things as we knew they where there in the house somewhere. I walked into the living room and there, on the coffee table, side by side, was a roll of electric tape and a packet of asprin.

Deanna.....you talking about smells reminded me....a few years ago I woke up and there was a strong smell of sweaty socks.....I put on the light and picked up a pair of OH's socks on the floor, but they did not smell like that... I woke OH up and said about the smell, and said it must be his feet....it wasn't he has a shower every day and changes socks every day...just as suddenly the smell went.....when it happened again we pulled the bed out, took all the bedding off, sniffing everywhere, with no sign of where this smell was coming from, and again it would just disappear.... The only people I knew with smelly socks was my Dad, and my youngest son.....neither lived with us, and both were still alive...I cannot think who it was, or where the smell came from, or how it disappeared just as quick.....I only wish it was a smell of flowers and not smelly socks.....not had it for a couple of years now...

CG, don't get freaked out by our tales, lets face it, we all lived to tell them. In reality, ghosts cannot harm us, they can scare the bejaysus out of us but thats all really. Most of the time a presence turns out to be that of a loved one, and is rarely any more than mischievious.

I said earlier in this thread I have never seen a ghost and would believe if I sore one. What does it mean when you are alone in your home and you feel like something has lightly touched your shoulder or brushed off it. I have been getting this a lot lately when alone and always my left shoulder and when I turn there is nothing. Last time it happened was last night when my son was sleeping at his grand parents and I was alone. Maybe I have a muscular complain! I just don't know? All your stories are creeping me out!

OK my daughters house. When my daughter and s.i.l bought their house ,they asked me to go and see it , they opened the front door and i stepped inside my stomach just turned over i, wanted to be sick i felt that i wanted to get out, far away as possible. anyway they showed me around the house but as we went up the stairs i felt that someone was behind me(i was the last to go up the stairs) i turned round ,noone there went into the back bedroom lovely sunny room then went into front bedroom it was very cold and i couldn't wait to get out of there . anyway i was baby sitting my grandson one night i was reading a book when grandson just screamed out i run up the stairs but couldn't undo the gate that goes across the door so climbed over it , the room was so cold , but there on the floor was my grandson screaming he was 7 months old the side of his cot was still up . then on another occasion i was in the kitchen and saw a grey shadow go past the door. .when ever i baby sat i would sleep down stairs on the put- u -up i woke one night to see this little boy of about 5/6 yrs old just standing there i asked him what he wanted but he just disapeared. my daughter used to put her scarf on the banister and you would see it swaying backwards and forwards as though someone was playing with it . this went on for a little while the (ghost) would play tricks . but one night my daughter heard some sort of noise and went up stairs and to her horror saw her son at the window , the window was open and there was no way my grandson could have got on to the window sill, it was to high for him and there was nothing for him to climb on to, he was only just about 8 months old just writting about is bringing me out in a sweat oh god i'm sorry i cant go on there is more but i will just say that it took another 2 yrs to sell her house . and my grandson is now a happy boy . hi all i have done my story sorry it is so long:) before we moved to the house we are in now, i had a lot of things happen my son was about 8 months old i used to sit him in the bouncy chair and he started laughing by where my living room door was? this used to happen all the time he would be in fits of giggles looking at the door... since he had been born he had trouble with his chest, anyway i had another son when middle son was 20 months old, middle son slept in his cot and youngest in moses basket, one night i woke up with him coughing, i looked at his cot and there was a man standing there looking over the cot, i wasn't frightened at all, which surprised me, but the man looked like the birds eye man lol, he looked at my son looked at me and put his thumb up? then vanished, a few months later, my oh went to bed kids were all in bed asleep and i was watching tele , i do not know why but something was telling me to go to bed? which i did has i came out of my living room i was frozen to the spot,i wanted to cry but had to get to bed quick which i did, i got into bed and as soon as i did i heard like little pebbles been thrown in the room on the floor? i tried to move but i was frozen again lol, my son then woke up coughing, i tried to wake oh but he was not budging:( i got my son out of his cot and everything was ok, after that little things kept on happening but only around my middle son, i had a friend who was a medium but never mentioned anything to her, until we moved, as soon we moved we knew things were not right, smells, things going missing, and i kept seeing people but not nice ones, one night oh went out to the pub i got the kids to bed, had a bath came down and was watching tv, my chair was by the kitchen door, and out of nowhere someone touched my wedding ring fing i jumped up and saw what i can only call a cloak worn by a man who was very, very tall at least 6 ft 7 , i didn't know what to do i then heard someone going up tthe stairs and had to go cause my kids were up there, and my son had woken up.... i told my oh when he came in and he said that before we moved in and he was decorating he had gone to the toilet and he felt like someone in black was leaning over him.... knives started to go missing, strange smells people on the stairs, keys missing then one day i was on my own with my middle son in the kitchen making a cuppa, i noticed that if stood in one place i smelt an aftershave, but if i moved left or right it went which was wierd,i thought it may have been my dad, but realised there were 2 spirits in the house 1 good and 1 bad, one morning my oh took my daughter to school and my sister popped in i told her stand where the smell was, she smelt it too, then she asked who was in the house i said me, her and sons who were asleep in the living room, we stood there and you plainly heard someone walk up the stairs go round to the tiolet then into my sons room, my sister left lol i was used to it and has long as it didn't harm any of us took no notice, but i think it didn't like the fact that we were taking no notice has one night a knife went missing, my son was upstairs talking to someone? oh went up to him and was saying black man and pointing at the corner he meant the man in black that i had seen, he was fine with that for a while then something happened and it became bad, i phoned my medium friend she told me if bad smells start or knives go missing get out well... you can imagine, i told her i could not move, so she told me to put my son in our room which we did both sons in cot and moses basket in our room everything was ok, i went to bed lay down and my middle son woke up laughing and talking to someone at the end of my bed i actually felt it all i could do was cry, i called my oh, next morning phoned friend again she came round that night with 2 other mediums to bless the ouse, the man she came with looked around on his own, he came back to say there were 2 one good one bad which i knew, who they were i still do not know or why it was just my middle son,the man said he thought 1 was a man who kept playing with his ring finger well my dad had died 10 months before and my brother had taken his ring off and had ahd it resized for his finger which i know my dad would not have been happy about?? as for the other one i do not know? sorry it was so long, i have missed out other things but i hope you get the gist:) jet:)
