Dear Lapland Lovely (and I'm sure you are, but would much rather know your christian/first name, as I feel I would be talking to a person rather than a noun) Non-smokers do indeed have as many rights as smokers - I was merely pointing out to Margaret who mentioned her profession that at moments of stress a ciggie can be a life-line, and in our profession a little compassion goes a long way - and you agreed. But, had you read my earlier response you would see that the white paper is merely an area for debate in the Commons, as is (still) fox-hunting, soon to be door-step selling, wind-power, etc etc. In my opinion there will not be an overnight ban on smoking in public places etc. so it is no good getting worked up about it - it is merely an area for debate and much as the non-smokers amongst us would like it to be an overnight ban, there are those of us (and I am amongst them) who would object to such a ban, and I and my fellow-smokers have as many rights as those who do not smoke. YES! Let's let the Government turn us in to a homogenised society. In this perfect society we will all be living in our boxes made of ticky tacky, driving our cars recklessly because we're okay - they've got impact protection for the next pedestrian we hit (how dare they walk in a non-pedestrianised area!), and nice air filters so we don't breathe in the fumes! We'll all eat the same food - approved by the Government (don't forget no one stopped McDonalds - ony when a health lobby pointed out how malnourished children who ate there a lot were) chocolate will be banned next. We'll all have psychologists because we can't talk face to face to anyone anymore - when we get out of our cars, our ears are clamped to the mobile. None of us smoke - we're so healthy - shame about the cancers and infertility caused by the mobile. Oh well, can't blame the government for hiding the perils - most of them had shares in the companies. Drink will be banned - well a few went over the top, likewise all children will be tracked - just in case one of them becomes a hooligan. Everyone will be taught to bring their children up the same way (this, like education will be subject to change at the whim of a politician). Of course, teachers will continue to teach what the government decrees - and all in exactly the same way - there is to be no individuality allowed! Anyone who steps out of line and is 4 lbs overweight will be sent to the local 'health Tsar' - weight will be monitored centrally through CCTV. I could go on, but it's scary. Basically we will be monitored int zombies! I remember another politician who tried to control people's lives. One small step.......... maggie |

I believe there is a White Paper coming out tomorrow about S.E.X. and where and when it can happen, and whether it can or cannot include chocolate!!! If it takes as long to pass the Bill as the fox-hunting bill, then bonking can continue for many years, anyplace, anywhere, anyhow with or without the Flake Bar! - lol Jacqui ps wonder when the Bill is coming out about unruly kids in restaurants throwing their food about? I know, Elaine, I've mentioned it before!! lol Jacqui |

I realise it's very late, and I've just finished work, very tired, but I must be missing something here. How does being told you can't do something, and making it a forceable law "maximise your choices"?????? A tired and confused Debbie |
