Why not have non-smoking/smoking rooms? Ultimately EVERYONE has a choice. I was in the pub last weekend in the pool (of the game not wet variety!) room. There were 14 smokers and 2 non-smokers in there and one of the non-smokers just went mad, threw his pool cue and stormed off because when he had started lecturing the smokers on how they were going to die they ignored him and carried on smoking anyway. Some people don't like it when people drink - simple solution don't go into pubs where people will be drinking. Some people don't like people eating animals - only dine out in vegetarian restaurants. We all have choice. |

I think that in order to give a real choice there should be smoking and non-smoking pubs. There should be a sign on the door and people could then choose to go and smoke or not and people could choose whether or not to work there. Linda - I hope you win the lottery! Jack |

Steph You dont have to stop smoking, some places will allow it as long as its not where food is consumed/bought. IE: If a pub has an ajoining resturant, smoking will be banned, but if the resturant part has its own door/enterance smoking is allowed (I think) E x |

If Governments REALLY DID CARE (which they don't) they would have come up with a better way to prevent youth starting the habit in the first place (prevention is better than cure). People like me who are hooked on the weed would buy them in only licensed places like the way you buy drink. Some people wouldnt like that but if tobacco is so bad for you (we know it is)and the people with the habit are becoming more and more alienated then why not. Here you can only buy drink in Off Licenses and Pubs, Supermarkets have an Off License detatched away from the rest of the Shop. I find it very annoying that Cigarettes are still sold in sweet shops/newsagents and there always has been people behind these counters who will sell them to the young, if I had not been allowed to buy cigarettes at 12 years old(in those days 1 or 2 at a time), I wouldnt be a smoker today. It feels like they do not want to make it difficult to buy the product because of all the tax it generates. Oh and I never smoked in Restaurants, I like clean buses and trains, but do miss not being able to smoke while having a drink. Well that's my thoughts anyway. Pat x |

ive suggested this on another thread before but i have the solution. ban smoking in england and scotland but let them smoke in wales. that way all the smokers have their own smelly country to live in! see, easy! |

I smoke but not during the day and not at work (not 100% happy with nipping of for fags when non-smokers don't). However, I work in a pub a couple of nights a week and the majority of drinkers in there smoke, as does the landlady. So if/when such a law comes into place it'll be ignored in many ways. We will probably have a room out the back where people can smoke to their hearts content. |

By not allowing smoking in certain places, does not mean us non smokers are all for people getting drunk & drink driving. Two wrongs dont make a right. Drink driving has been cracked down on. Alough its impossible to catch all that do it. Breathing in cigarette smoke is not only unpleasant, but unhealthy. and there is nothing worse than someone lighting up while youre eating a meal . Office smoking rooms will even be affected although pubs which serve bought-in food such as sandwiches will escape the ban, as pubs and bars with membership cards. But smoking will be prohibited in bar areas everywhere. The proposed ban will be first introduced in government buildings, then workplaces. Pubs and restaurants will be affected last. |
