Thank you Nell for telling us about the service. I wish I could have been there with you all. I, too have been thinking about Gaynor, Rob and family all day, and at 3pm I released a pink balloon with a message for Gaynor, our shining star. Sue xx

Thank you Helen, Thought of Gaynor all day, and wore pink in her honour. Glad the sun shone. It sounds like the funeral was a wonderful celebration of her life--no more than she deserved. Sal.x

Mel and I have just got back and thought that some of you who weren't able to attend would like to know about it. It was a lovely sunny day and the crematorium is set in the beautiful Chilterns. The service was conducted by a member of the Humanist Society. Gaynor had chosen the music, including 'You are the wind beneath my wings'. Her neighbour and friend George read a fitting tribute to Gaynor, retelling her life and bringing her vividly before us, glass in one hand, cigarette in the other and a huge grin on her face! He talked about her forthrightness, her warm-heartedness and her friendship. He read some e-mails, including one she had sent saying that although she was going to die she was really enjoying herself. We had some quiet moments to remember her in silence in our own way, and then the final piece of music 'The Show Must Go On'. I think nearly every one was a bit teary when they came out into the lovely sunshine, to be greeted with a yellow rose. On to the party at the Bellhouse. A table displayed lots of threads from GR, including Gaynor and Rob's typically honest account of how they felt when her illness was diagnosed and how they were getting on with things. A laptop had a changing photo album, with pics of Gaynor on holiday, with friends and family, at home. Cards and letters were there and photos of our Gaynor. I had the opportunity to chat to George, who told us how he'd arranged Gaynor and Rob's wedding, and Gaynor's unprintable response! Lots of hugs. Gaynor Bear was there, and a book for us all to sign. I wrote: you will shine forever. nell
