I've enjoyed reading the messages, we've a wide range of names here haven't we? Manda, if you are the fourth daughter you would be named after one of your great-grandmas, probably mum's mum's mum. I'm trying to work out what my mum would have been named as she was the 8th daughter. Heather

In that case then, Maureen = Margaret Pamela = Alice Alison = Dorothy Amanda = Alice (again!) lol I don't know where the names for my 2 oldest sisters came from, but Alison Margaret was named after my dad's mum (Alice) and mum's mum (Margaret). My middle name (Jane) is after my mum's auntie Ginny (Jane) x :-)

Hi Heather my mum and dad used that method of naming their children. I am named after my mum's mum. So I would still be me, little ole Anne Annexx

Looking back at my tree it appears they did use that pattern at one time. But the randy s*ds had that many children back then (lol) they must have been running out of names to call their children. Also there is that many John's, James etc I'm losing track of which is from which family! x :-)

Manda Perhaps it would be your dad's mum's mum's name if the name Alice was given to your sister. I think after the third child the babies were named after mum's eldest sister, dad's eldest sister, then mum's second eldest sister etc and these had been named after their grandma's. Heather

daughter got on pc last night so couldn't get back on. Couldn't work it out properly as so many are 4th, 5th, & 6th sons or daughters. So being the 2nd daughter I'm sticking with Victoria after my dad's mum. Actually when I was a child I wished that was my name, and I never realised until doing the family history that that was my granmothers name as she was known by her middle name. My middle name May was after my mum's mum.
