Different songs, at different times. The latest, which is hard to explain, was 'Up the Junction' by Squeeze Days, another lovely song, thanks for reminding me Gwynne x

I could probably name about 50 songs cos music affects me like little else but I'm always a sucker for Coldplay and the latest one does it:) Anything like Guns n Roses Cold November Rain, Prince's Purple Rain or the Cure's In Between Days, loads of REM songs and also really cheesy stuff sometimes! At the moment I'm listening to New Order again and Subculture makes me sad cos it reminds me of a certain time and situation. Paul - Up the Junction ain't hard to explain - it's such a sad song and really 'of the time'.

I agree with Paul and David about ' Up The Junction'. I heared it a few days ago for the first time in years and it brought back many memories. It was out in 1979 ( my last year of school) which was in Putney Hill, about 2 mile away from the junction where i bought many of my dodgy clothes of the time.

David, yes you're right, it is a sad song, never really saw that until recently. The latest Coldplay song (Fix you) had a similar effect on me at first, but not so much now - I find that with a lot of songs, I hear a lyric that touches me for some reason, it does so for a few plays and then I guess I become aclimatised to it. Others that have fallen into the category recently; Wires - Athlete Falling - Alicia Keys (OK, thats not that recent) Gravity - Embrace (also Come back to what you know) Stuck in a moment - U2 You're Beautuful - James Blunt A Minor Incident - Badly Drawn Boy No Distance Left to Run - Blur (still gets me, every time) Missing You - Jem Strange thing is, these usually become my favourite songs. Everybody Hurts had a profound effect on me and has made me cry many times, but although there are still tears occasionally, it's also a very positive song, one that I can find strength in.

At the beginning of last year through doing my family tree I discovered my Mum had 6 Siblings she knew nothing about.I set about tracing them and found one set two sisters and a brother aged 84,82 and 79.One sister lives in Australia one in Gillingham and the brother lived in Herne Hill. Mum went to meet him and he was having Chemo and was very poorly. She saw him only a few times and sadly he died, very hard for her and at his funeral they played Strangers on the shore by Acker Bilk, which was his favourite. Everytime we hear that now it brings tears to our eyes, especially Mum who missed so many years with her brother due to family secrets.

There's one song that I can't listen to at all, if I heard it, I'd turn it off or leave the room. Not saying what it is though.
