Chris in Sussex | Report | 25 Sep 2005 17:10 |
I asked my Mum and Dad (now in their seventies) why I was named Christine and my younger sister Jaqueline........ Answer: They liked them!!!! Next question....Why was I given a second name Susan and Jaqueline (Now universally known as Jackie) none? Answer: Jackie would probably have enough problems learning to spell it without an additional name!!!! Funnily enough the only people to use my full name of Christine are my parents, and then only when talking about me to people who don't me, to show I am female. Chris :)))) |

we gave our son the same first name as dads middle name, purely by coincidence, which now follows tradition again, it was going to be sons middle name , as his first was after a mountain in falklands , ( dont laugh its a sensible name,) but we changed um round so the mountains his middle name, |

Nana Anna | Report | 25 Sep 2005 16:55 |
I was given the name Annabel as I had a one syllable maiden name. My Mum decided my brother and sister should all have three syllable christian names. But everyone shortens it to Anna anyway! |

Tammy | Report | 25 Sep 2005 16:50 |
My parents named me Tammy after a song from a film at the time (1968) with Debbie Reynolds in. I never liked it much and got alot of stick at school but what can you do!! lol My brother's got off lightly with Richard (after Dad) and Lee (because it couldn't be shortened). I have considered changing it but nothing suits me!! Tammy |

I was 'born' an Anne which Mum and dad would have kept apparently, but i had a cousin Ann and they thought it too much the same. Dad apparently wanted me to be called Debby - thank goodness mothers determined streak ran true. My first name i still dont like very much, so i'll stick with my second - thank you. My brother got saddeled with mums maiden name as a second name - and he hated that too. (i'd have called mine Eleanor Ruth and a Lawrence Frederick had the 'big plan ' worked). jess x |

my hubby was given his name after his dad, as he was number 5 child and his parents decided to get married just before he was born, since found traditional scots call third son after the husband, together they had two sons and two daughters prior to getting married, and all names began with an S,dunno why, we then discovered hubbys dad had two other sons in previous marriage, which may have been named after grandfathers, hense hubby given his fathers name, well its clear in my head anyway, |

Hi Bec! I was meant to be Naomi but when my mam had gone into hospital my dad had been watching the gymnastics on TV. He saw a girl called Natalia and thought it was nice so mentioned it to my mam and she loved it. Pretty mad that I ended up a gymnast. My middle name is Rose after my dads aunt who died in the summer before I was born. She was a lovely lady apparantly so I am happy to be her namesake. Mark is Mark cos his mam wanted him to be Simon and his dad said NO as he would end up being called simple. hehe. So he's Mark Simon. Still simple in my eyes though!! |

Haven't got a clue. Second name is mums second name and my sister got her first name as her middle name. Maybe because I was born at 12.25am. My eldest has mums first name as her middle, son has dads proper first name as his middle and tiddler has hubbys mums first name as her middle .Now all I've got to do is persuade hubby to have another and hopefully have a boy so can be named after his dad. |

I was named Mary after my great-great-grandmother and my father's favourite aunt. My second name is Elizabeth - after my mother's mother, my father's grandmother and his elder sister. I'd have preferred the names the other way round. I don't like being called 'Mary'. CB >|< |

Claire | Report | 25 Sep 2005 14:35 |
My mum's friend pinched her fave name (Zoe) for her daughter just before I was born so my mum thought of Claire (because of the record I suppose) and said it wasn't a very common name in 1974 and couldn't be shortened to anything.....must have quickly become common then because there were 7 in my primary school year! I DID call my daughter Zoe for my mum though! Claire xx |
