Lisa

Lisa Report 25 Sep 2005 18:43

I was supposed to have been Jennifer Maud - Maud was my paternal grandmother's middle name, don't know where the Jennifer came from, haven't discovered one so far in my research. This would have been my father's choice, but Mum decided she couldn't let me go through life with that, so, because a registrar visited the maternity hospital where I was born she shuffled off down to see him. Mum had been reading a magazine story with a character called Lisa in it. She thought it sounded nice in combination with Jane, but not wanting me to be a plain Jane, stuck a 'y' in the middle of it, hence I'm Lisa Jayne!

Hi again Dee, I hated my name as a child but quite like it now. Your mention of typist initial troubles reminded me of my very best friend who died some time ago through breast cancer. Her name was Patricia, known as Pat. Her second name was Ann & her last name began with a T, she was always getting told off for putting her name. She also without thinking embroidered the back pockets of a pair of jeans with her & her husbands names! lol Vivienne

I have found the Scoular.. it was my 3xg Granny who was.. Marion Scoular. I am still working on other names lol. I now wish I had given my kid's some family names, how sad is that? lol Marion :))

Felicity

Felicity Report 25 Sep 2005 20:26

My mother liked the name Cherry until she met my father who had the last name 'Stone'!! I'm Felicity because she liked it, Margaret after her (that might have been my father's suggestion) and Mulhern because that was her mother's maiden name and then Stone. Quite a mouthful!

Unknown Report 25 Sep 2005 21:00

I named my son after a character on TV. I had decided on a girls name whilst pregnant but couldn't decide on a boys. Stood watching an Australian soap and in walked a character Curtis ... I just happen to make a remark ' thats different ' and his Dad says ' yeah I like that ' ... then I realised that my favourite Great Aunt Joyce was Joyce Curtis, so I agreed immediately to name a boy Curtis James (James being my Grandad ... and my partners name as well) ...Then I couldn't be bothered to keep saying Curtis all the time, so from the day he was born he's been called CJ. !! Elaine :-)

my parents could not agree on a name for me to save their live, so one nite in the pub, the song Claire by Gilbert O Whathisface came on any my *lovely* uncle mick said 'What about Claire' and that was that! and of course whenever I meet someone new they think they're ever so funny by singing the bloody song like they're the first one to do it! GGRRRRRR!!! c x

Carolyn

Carolyn Report 25 Sep 2005 21:17

I was named after Carolyn Jones, the actress who used to play Morticia (?) in the original Adams Family. Apparently, my mum saw her name go up on the credits and decided that was what she would call me. Carolyn

Sarah

Sarah Report 25 Sep 2005 21:17

I wasn't named after anybody in the family, but a great aunt of mine thought I was named after her as we shared the same 1st name of Sarah. I've since found out, with doing my family tree, that I have ancesters who also had my first & middle names. Sarah, xxx

Sad but true, I was called Wendy after Peter Pans sidekick Wendy. Got my mom to blame for that one! To think my dad wanted to call me Jackie.

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 25 Sep 2005 22:32

Marion - which I don't like much - chosen by my mum so it couldn't be shortened - so of course I get called Maz or Mal (yuk) except by family - dad wanted to call me Sylvia, not sure which I like least really! middle name is my mum's name - I really loathe it, but I know there is at least one other on the boards with this name and she is really nice - so I won't say what it is as I wouldn't want to upset her! chose my kid's names purely because they were the only ones we really agreed on. son's middle name is after both our dads. Jon and Suzie

Jon and Suzie Report 25 Sep 2005 22:58

Think my parents liked the meaning of Jonathan, can't stand that name, my middle name was chosen by my 4 year old sister who was reading the Peter and Jane series of books at the time, how embarassing. My girlfriend was named Suzanne because they liked it and it sounded french- she has a french (or Alsace) ancestor, I think that's why. Her sister is Caroline after Princess Caroline of Monaco.

The Border Reiver Report 25 Sep 2005 23:42

Because my father wanted to break with tradition and there was no one else in the family called Ian (he also liked the name). My middle name is traditional - Murray my grandmother's maiden name. We called our daughter Catriona as we both liked that name and her middle name is both her grandmother's name - Isabella. Ian
