Billie Holiday's 'Strange Fruit'. I first heard it when I was very young and learning about civil rights. Up until then, I had a vague concept that racism meant children shouting 'blackie' in the playground and not much else. After hearing that song, I realised just how brave the civil rights protesters were to simply seek equality. |

I forgot to add Hymne L'Amour by Edith Piaf and If You Were Here Tonight by Alexander O'Neal to my earlier list. Paul, Yep, I've seen Jimmy Ruffin live - probably before you were born! His brother David's 1976 hit Walk Away From Love is another favourite. Shame he didn't do much else. CB >|< |

Hi All Great thread I have to agree with Kaye with REM and Everybody Hurts but it also is associated with a very sad time in my life, the last post I wiil always love you (no 1 when Ist son born) Things will always get better (No 1 when 2nd son born and was really poorly) And even tho' I hate to admit it that Danny boy gets me every time Kaz PS Also feel goosebumps when hear 'Three lions' and sing at top of my voice (not nice, I assure you!) |

Thanks for all your replies. I asked because I've been compiling CDs for the last night at 'my' pub and there have been all sorts of requests. The songs on the CDs for me are: Baddiel & Skinner - 3 Lions (reminds me of watching England lose to France last year, I started a fight with a customer because he said England were crap!) Atomic Kitten - The Last Goodbye (I met my ex's family in the pub and when we split I played it a lot, it has lots of sentimental value) Stevie Wonder - Isn't she wonderful (On my last shift last night they played this and the whole pub sang to me... they made me cry!!!) love becx |
