I'm sure it would make fascinating reading Bev!!!, Who knows what sort of weird and wonderful folk are looking in on our conversation!! Just cos we pay to add to the threads doesnt make us immune!!! We also seem to have a member with photographic memory???? If my memory serves me right he remembers details and brings them up months later!! Scarey stuff this WWW... Karen PS If anyone knows my surname could they please tell me!!! LOL |

Hi Bev That is scary isn't it:( But I don't want to get all paranoid either and start worrying about who I talk to and what I say cos things like that are the exception - I suppose it's about using common sense and yr probably right about not using yr name. I hope you feel a bit more comfortable again. David |

Hi Karen Someone ages again was on about security on here, telling people not to put to much personal details on here, so i tried the b4u site and fount quite a few people, in the wrong hands this could be very dangerous indeed, not only that, people or should i say full members need to remember that you do not need to be a paying member to read these boards, anyone can read all the stuff we put on, so nobody really knows who is reading what or when etc. best leave personal stuff when emailing someone if you really need to share that kind of information :-) |

Karen There is no need to show them how its done. Now they know the name of the site, they just use the search box on the home page... Pretty easy really. BTW im not knocking your warning, just the pointing of, to the site in question, where anyone who is reading this thread, will likely to have a look.and a go at putting in names....such as I did lol ! If folk have been pointed to the site then this can only be a good thing!!! Its one thing telling people to beware....... its another if you show them just how its done!!! Forewarned is forearmed!!!! Karen |

I'm on there and my full name and location is also on there. But not my phone number. BUT it IS out of date, several neighbours are not there anymore,...and havent been for a long time., plus I now tick the box on the form so my new details are not shown. And to be honest, this thread had most likely now shown everyone who didnt know about the site, a way to look up other members details.....which has more and likely done more harm than them finding out about the site by accident.... Bev exactly what I mean people giving too much info out either not realising because it is done over time on different threads then maybe regretting at a later stage when it is seen by the wrong people. There was a person on here once who had a heated argument threatened another member with the words 'I know where you live'. There has been other threads that other members details were checked & questioned, the knowledge was gleaned from this board, over time. No one is saying Don't they are just letting people know or reminding people that not just those who contribute to the boards check them but the World & his misses can too, so unless you want your details public knowledge beware how much you put on these boards. Just over a year ago, a man was arrested. Found in his flat were a number of 'pieces' of GR - copies of threads from the General Board, quotes from threads etc. He also had a map upon which my place of work was ringed - this man lived only a few miles from me. He had pieces of information about several other GR members also, all obtained from the General Board. This man (who I didn't know from Adam) was NOT a full member. In answer to your question David, 'what could anyone do with your address?' Well I have no idea, but I'm very glad that man was arrested before I found out! All that was down to my own stupidity in using my own name on here and giving out too much personal information. Never again! Bev x |

I didnt post this thread as a hunt the member game!!!! It was meant as a warning NOT to give out too much information on a web site that can be viewed by all and sundry!! If you have to give info do if by PM and trust the person you are giving it too!!! Take care!! Karen |

Thinking about it, if anyone can find me I'd be quite surprised but if they can, let me know cos I have a few missing relatives names to send you:) |

When the electoral role forms come round, just tick the box at the bottom and your info will not be displayed! |

im not bothered either. I'm ex directory but you could find my address easy enough. If you start sending begging letters for money I'll send them back. Unless you are being stalked by a madman with an axe I don't see why there is so much excessive secrecy on here. |

I'm a bit wary about giving out details that are very personal about my life cos I'm aware that some people will throw it back at you but I don't really see the worry about someone being able to find where you live. I might be being a bit dense but what are they going to do? |
