I live in St Albans and it woke me up, it was so loud I thought the roof was caving in. It's very foggy outside, wether thats the fog or smoke I don't know. Some people as far as Biggleswade in Bedfordshire heard the explosion as well. |

We were also woken by the noise of the blast just after 6 a m, and we're about 20 miles away. We're a bit worried, as we have two lots of friends who live in Hemel Hempstead. My husband has just said a door in our house blew shut seconds after the bang, and I think there was another loud bang around 7 a m. >*|*< |

We used to live in Hunter's Oak on the Redbourne Road. We could see the oil tanks from out front window. I wonder if they have if they have any windows left after this? |

Lindy, There's nothing to be scared about. We're nearer to it than you are here in Hatfield, and there's no problem here, apart from a thick pall of smoke. Don't worry, you're safe! CB >*|*< X |

Peter, Latest reports on BBC News 24 from local residents say that the houses closest to the depot have had all their doors and windows blown out, plus some roofs caved in, but very few casualties. 20 people reported as being treated for minor injuries in Hemel Hempstead hospital. The smoke's spreading and thickening now. It smells awful! CB >*|*< |

It's really strange out there now. The sun is brilliant but there are no rays from it as we are now under a thick blanket of brown smoke. It's horrible. |

Morning All, I haven't seen the news yet as I don't have sky. I called my daughter who lives near Buckingham & it woke my son in law but the smoke is not in their direction just a bit of fog. Vivienne |
