please be there for your friend and dont pity her. i too had a similar thing happened,i had a bleed at 8 months and had a scan and had scan after scan describing all different conditions including hydachephalis(water on the brain).i too was offered a termination(still had to give birth )but i refused, this baby was mine no-matter what. when i look back thing i went on auto pilot!! anyway they sent me to manchester for an indepth scan(they scan baby inside you)and the baby had 'agenesis of corpus callosum' it means the central part of babys brain was missing(it sends messages across from one side to another)they gave me worse senario baby couldnt dance, play piano, hold a knife and fork, worst thing was i already had a boy and they were 95% sure this baby was a girl.anyway as it affected her brain i opted for a caesarian. i never let her sit in a corner i prompted her to do anything she could the doctors were amazed.she is now( in 2 wks) gonna be 10 yrs old and she dances, plays the piano ,eats with a knife and fork ,swims ,and is a green belt in karate, doctors can get it wrong or if not you will be amazed what babys can do when you push them that little bit.i hope all the best for her as i know people tried to feel sorry for me but when they have healthy babies you cant see how they know how you feel.take care shelly |

have just heard that my friend had a wee boy last night at 6.10pm. They have called him Samuel James and he weighed in at 8lb 3ozs. The only info regarding his health so far is that his legs are very badly deformed, as is his spine and there are organ problems (dont know what exactly yet though). He did pass water apparently tho which is a good sign, but there are also problems with his back passage. They have moved on to the Sick Kids and he will get his first operation tomorrow. Friend had a fairly easy birth and her blood pressure has dropped to a more normal level and she has gone to the sick kids with Sam. Will keep everyone updated as I get more news on his progress. Congratulations to G and M on the birth of their wee boy Samuel!! So pleased he is here. Jill x x |

Jill, It must have been a huge shock for your friends to be told about their baby's state of health. As I know from my own experience, blood pressure can be cause for serious concern during pregnancy, even without the baby also having problems. I hope very sincerely that things turn out for the best for your friends and their baby and that they don't suffer too much heartache. Very best wishes to them all. CB >|< |

Roxanne and Toothfairy - you both said exactly what I was thinking - a special baby goes to extra special parents. I hope things work out well for your friends, and this new little one. If they have friends and family to support them I am sure they will do fine. Will be thinking of them all. |

When i first read this i was crying, thinking about how sad it was... then i remembered what an old work friend once said... Her children were all (and she had three )born with severe disabilities, she lost two at a young age and the third wasn't likely to live beyond four-six years.. i was so sorry for her and expressed how awful it must be for her... She smiled and said, these children are special, they don't have long with us here on earth so God makes sure they go to the right parents, someone who will love them unconditionally and live every day to the full. I was chosen to be their mummy, and i am so very proud that i will be the one to hold them, feed them and see them smile and love me back.... I hope your friend has many years of joy with her new very special little one... xxx lou xxx |
