Alice, I agree with you entirely, I said she was a snob too, but I still found it interesting, especially the RFC it at the beginning |

I didn't find the easiest to watch out of all the ones so far mainly because Julian Clary seems to have very pointy nipples to my shame I also have family that lived in Popham Street (the bit they looked at on Booths poverty map) but they're a fairly distant part of teh LInkson's so thats fine Z |

thought the prog lacked 'meat for the bones ' this time too - not half as interesting as some. looking forward to Jane Horrocks- one of my favourite actresses |

Did anyone notice the calender on the wall at the begining of the programe? It was Aug 0'5. Then again, we can see it was summer because every week they film people sat around tables in the garden. |

Yes Lynda i agree, we have to remember the prejudice regarding germany because of the 2 world wars... and this then being passed down a generation.. I do not really blame Julians Mum for her thoughts on this...it probably was ingrained on her during childhood. |

Well, Mr Clary Snr had the last laugh, didn't he! It's a shame that people from that generation won't abide Germans; OK, Hitler and the SS were evil specimens (being polite here!), but I understand that a lot of young German soldiers didn't even want to go to war. Come on Mrs Clary - lighten up! I did enjoy the programme, other than that bit. Nice one, Jules. x (Slinks off, in case Mrs Clary finds out that one of my great-aunts married a German!) |

Yes, his mother got right up my nose at the beginning by saying she didn't want him to find any 'foreigners'! I agree with you Lynda about a certain 'prejudice' against Germans years ago but on the other hand, I reckon she's younger than my own mum, and yet my mum lived through the war without being so prejudiced. Also the way she looked down her nose at their being any 'poverty' in her family! I thought she might have been joking but one look at her face said she wasn't! But I do like Julian and I watched it because it was his programme, despite his mother. Mandy :) PS: Zoe, I missed the nipples! I must have been half-asleep! |

Found the part on Booths map pretty interesting. I have Germans on both sides of my tree - never bothered me. And if I'd known having an artist in the tree was so desirable I'd have told everyone about mine ages ago! lol Daisy |

I think a lot of people like dthe Booth's map bit as i've now crashed twice out of it. Trying to double check if the 'wealthy' part of teh family from Islington were actually just blaggers and lived in the blue bits too. Popham Street - poor Britannia Row - poor Eagle Wahrf Road - partly poor very surprised to see that almost all of Holloway Road was considered pretty well off - cuh - how much a hundred odd years can change a place eh? |
