Sue - No! lol Copied it from www*giveblood*co*uk It's a cause I believe very strongly in. I give blood regularly and am on the Bone Marrow Register. It really annoys me that most of the people I know WON'T give blood because they're scared of needles! |

It's not like a deliberate effort not to help people. I shake, go cold and then pass out when they try to stick needles in me! In my defense I try and give to charities when I can, sometimes even when I can't afford it really and I'm not saying that so you'll all think I'm great it's not something I usually mention at all cos its a private thing but I can't give blood I just can't! Sorry Julie xxx |

Julie - sorry didn't mean to sound harsh. xx Obviously some people have a phobia and therefore cannot do it. But a lot of people can but just don't really 'fancy it'. The last three times I've given blood I've needed attention afterwards due to fainting and it's not a nice experience BUT if it helps someone in surgery, labour etc then I'm happy to do my bit. |

I must admit I don't know, I'll have to find out one day. Every time there is a blood donation point near by I'm ill and if I'm well you can gaurentee i've just and anti biotics! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Frequency of major blood groups in the UK population O+ 37% O - 7% Total O 44% A+ 35% A - 7% Total A 42% B+ 8% B - 2% Total B 10% AB+ 3% AB - 1% Total AB 4% Total Rh + 83% Total Rh - 17% ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Did you know there are over 23 knoen blood types? A, B, AB, O acount for 4, Rh +/- is 2 so that makes 8 all together, but there are other antibosies that do not caurse problems like giving someone who is Rh neg, Rh pos blood or by giving the wrong blood group (AB, A, B,O) |

There really are a lot of people who can't give blood these days, the regulations have become so much more strict, in the light of more and more transmisible diseases being found. Then there are the people for whom giving blood would be hazardous to themselves. Then those who take medication, which when transfused to someone could do them harm. And then those poor people who really do have a bad reaction to the process of giving blood. They are all valid reasons for not donating. At work, all the bright young things toodle off to give blood on the appointed day, come back and want to know why I don't give, and although it's not really a big deal, I am no longer required as as donor, mainly because of the medicationI I take. But why should I have to explain it to them? So please don't be harsh on people who don't give, there could be a million good reasons. Suex |

Sue - I understand that but on average out of every 20 of my friends only 2 of them 'cannot' give blood. In fact most of my friends are healthy and young (19 - 35). The rest of them simply don't want and don't care. Yet it's probably these people who'll be more than happy to accept a transfusion. Each to their own and obviously it's up to the individual, I just find it sad and at times frustrating. Ultimately it's 40 minutes 4 times a year... AND you get free biscuits/crisps/squash/tea/coffee/stickers! lol xxx |

Bec, the stickers make all the difference don't they! I have encouraged my boys to become donors, with their 17th birthday cards the got application forms to become donors, but it's exactly what they would have expected with me as their mother! I also point out that it is a Blood Bank, what right do you have to expect to made a withdrawal if you can't be bothered to make any deposits! I can be a little harsh...... Suex |
