This is a tricky question!! When I hear of all the bad things that happen to people all over the world then I do question if there is a God but then I look at my 4 mth old niece and ask myself how can there not be! All I know for sure is that if I am in trouble what do I do......I pray!! So do I believe??? Yep I think I do!! Bev |

I believe there is a spirit world, whether there is a god or not as we view or perceive him, I really dont know. I believe there may be a higher spirit entity who shows himself to different religions as what they can accept and see...such as God, Allah, Budda etc. But I dont believe in the bible and other man written books, There are many contridictions, and some fanatics use those contridictions to cause strife and unhappiness . (Im not knocking those who seek comfort from these books) I also cant understand why a God will not accept certain people into his kingdom. I would have thought God who supposebly created everything would accept ALL of his creatures in heaven, ..despite any 'Flaws' they may have. Elaine x |

Thanks to David and David for their replies to my question. If everyone was as accepting and respectful of others as you obviously are, the world would be a much more harmonious place. Anna |

I used to believe in the Christian God. I was brought up to believe in God and Jesus - both my parents were Christians who tried to lead Christian lives as directed by the church. My father, at 96, still does. I'm not sure what I believe now. The behaviour of so many 'Christians' goes against everything I understood Jesus to stand for that I'm confused. If I read about Jesus the man in the New Testament I can believe he was a truly good man. Then I look at the bigotry, blindness, intolerance and hatred shown by so many who profess to believe in him that I don't wish to be included in their number. I think I do believe in a supreme being, I just think that maybe a lot of people have got him/her wrong. If I come to believe that there is a Christian God it will be despite, not because of, a lot of those who claim to know his word. If all Christians were like my parents it would be a lot easier to believe. Gwynne |

I follow no specific religious pathway. I have always believed in the power of positive thought, to beleive in one's own strength and ideals, always strive to be good, kind, considerate of others, and like the American native Indians, I believe in the spirits and souls of my ancestors. If I choose to pray, it is to them and personal to me, this way I feel I keep a bond between us (although separated by death), I feel they keep me as strong as I need to be no matter what. Lin xx |

On the subject of positive thoughts, it has been scientifically proved that a person undergoes physical changes when another person is thinking about the first - even if the person being thought about isn't told they are being thought about. Prayer/positive thoughts/meditation/curses - they're all part of something that we can't yet full explain or understand. Whether or not it's to do with a God or a Higher Being who is responsible for our existence has yet to be established beyond all reasonable doubt. As for is there a God? Don't know, don't mind one way or the other. I do mind that not enough people on the planet find a reason to be kind to one another. |

I lost any ideas I had of a God when I lost my daughter, who was wanted so much by me. I went to a priest that evening that she died but he offered me no comfort or explanation, nothing, in fact I can't recall anything he said at all, certainly nothing that would have been memorable to me and helped me understand why she had to be born early and then die. Yesterday I attended my friend Mabel's Requiem Mass at the church she had attended for many years. It is an Anglo-Catholic church. I found the whole service rather fussy and stuffy altho there were a few humorous comments made during the eulogy. It was just as Mabel wanted and very dignified, and I am sure she was pleased if she was watching from above, but to me it didn't feel right somehow. Can't explain how I mean that but i came away feeling odd. R.I.P. Mabel |

Hello Anna I don't know what anyone else believes but I'm sure we all go the same place - all of us. To me denominations & religions are all just interpretations of a higher being (which I think of as God). Someone said to me recently that the only path to Heaven is through Jesus & the Church if England - well that seems pretty stupid to me because the Church of England is only 500 years old, so it would be pretty quiet up there:) Given that most of the Saints have been Roman Catholic and the Apostles were Jews etc etc, I think whatever afterlife we all end up in is going to be very inclusive of all beliefs & spiritualities. |

Could someone please answer my question - it has always bothered me. What happens to the many indigenous people from many corners of the globe who have their own very personal spirituality but do not necessarily believe in a Christian, Islamic, Jewish etc etc God? I am thinking for instance of the Austalian Aboriginal people and the American Indians who have such a beautiful spirituality. Are they damned because they do not believe in the God of the major world religions? I am not questioning anyone's beliefs but this is something which I have always thought about. Anna |

To go back to Rupert's question ... when I send out positive thoughts I send a positive energy which comes from me and nobody else. I believe there is a Universal energy which has nothing to do with God. It is there to be tapped into....BC |

'' If god is in heaven, how can this happen here? In his name they use the weapon for the massacre.' Phil Lynot 1978. I lost my dad, aged 41 when i was 14 and then to lose my brother aged 20 4 years later made me question 'is there a god?' No, not for me i'm afraid. Nick |
