I had this discussion with my Mum the other week and with it being St Patrick's Day we are discussing this at work. My Mum considers herself as English and not British. She as been born in England and for about 3 generations back on both sides she is English. In our household we consider ourselves as a British mix as my hubby's father is Scottish but his mother is English but he has Irish and Maltese ancestors as well. I call my son my little Scottish Malteser which he loves obviously any chocolate association works for him. What about you? |

Tough one. Have dual nationality (Greek/British). Feel a natural affiliation with Greece but am of British/English blood. |

Scottish! With a little Irish and English mixed in but thats a couple of generations back so it doesnt really play a big part in what nationality i class myself in today. My dad says i'm brittish though because thats what it says on my passport. Mhairi |

ENGLISH defo. Even though I am not a Londoner, my g gran was and as was her family, and I consider myself to be a London boy as well. I have some French Huguenot ancestry. I also have Suffolk, Yorkshire, Sussex, Essex and Oxon ancestors, and possibly Scottish. If I have Scottish then I probably will find some Irish immigrant blood in me as a lot if Irish went to Scotland. Ben |

Quite definitely Scottish. This is despite being born in London and living there till I was 4. Parents moved to Scotland at that point. My father's family is entirely Scottish. My mother's family is entirely English. I am Scottish because it's how I feel about myself. 'Just because a cat has her kittens in the oven does not make them cookies!' William |

Welsh - was born and bread in walse and will only ever be Welsh , not British, Not European, Not English!! Just Welsh. And that is despite my matermal grandmother being English with an Irish Father and English Mother (and English back too 1400), Paternal grandparents had 1 English parent each that were English as the day is long... Also have a tiny bit of French and Belgum blood fro 1300's (I didn't work that one out! It's documented on a very old family tree in a book somewhere that a cousin found) |

I'm English. I was born in England, all my father's ancestry is English back to the 1100s, although my Grandma's name is supposed to be of Viking origin. My mother's father was born in Wales of English parents, and her mother was born in Glasgow of an English mother and Scottish father. Whichever way you look at it, English ancestry is most prominent, so I regard myself as English. CB >|< |
