Deanna Report 14 Jun 2006 17:17

Em, I used to be so good at spelling, but now I often have to sit and really think!! Memory going too, but at least I have my OH. We were talking today about someone (in the past) and could not remember her name........... it took the two of us an hour!! BUT we did get it in the end!! Isn't that cause for celebration? LOL And I would NEVER laugh at anyone whose spelling was not up to scratch. That is not why I join in the fun on here. Deanna X :-0)

Have a hug! ((E)) So what if you have a problem with spelling; what's it to them??You're still a fantastic writer. That's why authors have editors, it's not the spelling and grammar, it's the IDEAS that count and your brain certainly doesn't lack those! I forget words too and I'm always using the wrong ones. I have no excuse at all. We had a babycue instead of a barbecue the other night - the mind boggles! LOL I remember a great play on television some time ago with Thora Hird. She had had a stroke and had problems remembering her words. Her therapist was insisting that, if she couldn't remember a word, she should describe it and was reminding her a bit sharply that that was what she should be doing. Thora Hird's character then retorts 'But I ALWAYS called IT his THINGAMAJIG!!' - priceless LOL Stuff 'em Em - Now where's the next episode?? Mags xxx

Dearest Em, I am sorry to hear about your accident and the side affects it has caused. I would never have thought you had problems. Your posts always seem fine. As for the person who pointed out your spelling error. Is their spelling perfect? Thinking of you Raven

Hello Em, I don't have an excuse either but I forget things and call my children by any old christian name that pops out of my mouth. My spelling can be quite scary sometimes and as for my punctuation well ;:!!! I don't have much of a clue how to use it!!??? What you have to say is all that matters to me and your threads are funny and often very silly which I like lots :o) Please don't worry xxxx Helenxxxx

Dear Em I'm sorry someone has taken you to task over a spelling mistake - what does it matter, here, we're all friends and understand what's meant. how many times do our fingers run away (oh dear, I forgot a capital H after the full stop!) There is a time and a place for correct spelling. I certainly haven't noticed spelling mistakes, just a caring, thoughtful lady. You just keep on as you are. Christine

Cornish Report 14 Jun 2006 18:45

I know its difficult when someone picks you up on something like that, I got upset today when I emailed someone who I thought might have been related and they sent me a really brusque email back. I got really upset, then thought well its their loss and if we are related I'd rather not know them anyway. I often forget the right words, my poor children get called 5 names sometimes before I hit upon their proper name. And I often forget names of objects, spending ages trying to describe it. (Have you ever watched dinner ladies? lol). And I've no excuse at all. So, you carry on being you and dont forget for every 1 person who upsets you, there are hundreds more of us out here on your side. I'm usually too busy reading the content of the posts to worry about anything else. Big hug, Bex xx PS: (Embarrassed face) Was so busy reading this post and then typing that I forgot I put the tea in the oven, and now its burnt. lolol.

Hi Em Just wanted to give you a bit of support because I know exactly how you feel. I have very similar symptoms to yours, but caused by an illness not an accident. My long term memory is so good that people joke about me being 'sad' - I remember postcodes, phone numbers, birthdays, even car registrations. However, my short term memory and concentration are terrible. I do exactly the same as you to try and keep my brain active - I read a lot (although it has to be 'junk' because I can't concentrate on tricky plots any more), I write, I type etc. But most of all, I laugh at myself and even encourage my family and close friends to do the same, otherwise I would cry. Let me just tell you a little funny story that I hope will make you smile. The night before last, someone who I'd never met on the boards posted a thread asking a question about what certain letters represented. Some of us replied, and wondered if the 'R' had something to do with death, because there was a Latin word beginning with 'R'. I knew full well that it was requiescat but do you know what popped into my head first? Yep, rectum. Keep your chin up Em, you're a lovely person and that's what counts. And just for the record, I'm an experienced and trained PA/secretary with a good command of the English language but I would never, ever be so cruel or crass as to pick anyone up for spelling or grammar errors. Love Mandy :) xx

Em hon don't worry - my spelling is so awful i should change my name to (sp) i write it so often. I didn't see the thread but are you sure it was a serious micky take or just ( & maybe with knowing the facts am not trying to belittle the just bit- make sence) anyway- just a gently tease? Sometimes we all say things that aren't deliberatly (sp) meant to offend just a quirky sence of houmour (sp) etc. Either way you are lovely so there! just read my message - not sure it makes much sence so have to be Sophia (sp) (grm).Wilks

Em, please don't let it get you down, made a mistake posting a while back and someone called me on it, typed itch instead of inch. think theres a difference there but oh well. pmsl. For the most part everyone on here seems very accepting to others. Part of being on the boards is we have no idea what others circumstances are unless were talk personally on another site to them. All the more reason to be more accepting. Have read throught the entire thread to this point and am truly blown away by other peeps comments. I have a young niece who has a severe learning disability with language. She talks normally and to see her you would never suspect she has a disability. (Her brain does not descifer words longer than 5 letters). What is really hard is the minute some found out she has this disability they were down right nasty making fun behind her back (loud enough for her to hear). Even a couple of her teachers who know about her have made nasty comments. Thank god she is a strong person though for only being 16 she sure has a grasp on life and how to deal with peeps who don't understand. Be strong and don't let it get you down. Debs xxx

Em, I don't have your reason for bad spelling, but I still feel awful when some one picks me up for it, but what I have learnt is that no matter how bad some one spells, it makes no difference to what sort of person they are, and you are a gem, so smile girl your worth it. :))) Bev
