Some pople know, i had a nasty accident about 3 years ago, causing some long term problems with regards memory, speech and concentration.... only very small probs, and probably not noticable by most people, but never the less... they are there. Well, i have kept my mind very active since, and read books, written articles, kept my hand in regards my career by some freelance work and typed away on here til i am blue in the face hoping this would help. But lately i have noticed i seem to be getting worse.... my spelling is going down the drain alarmingly, I am less able to find the words i need and my short term memory is rubbish!. I hit a low today when i spelt sheppherd... sheppard and it was picked up on by another member... i was so embarrassed... i know this is a very tiny mistake in most peoples eyes, but it is a huge big problem in my life... and very frustrating too... not so much the spelling because i do not realise i have mispelt something until it is picked up by someone else, but the inability to find the words i need... so all i am saying is...Please ignore my spelling and grammar... and if i forget to do or say something or seemingly ignore a request it is not my ignorance or bad manners but my stupid memory.... oh sigh.... when i am about 80 this will be acceptable wont it! lol |

You do not need to apologise or worry. I make mistakes like that all of the time and have no bloomin excuse and even when I notice half the time don't worry about correcting it. :o)))))) xx I'll second that, you do very well. |

Em when I read your posts I see a warmhearted woman who I would be proud to have as a friend. The spelling mistakes are unimportant and happen to the most intelligent and intellectual amongst us so please try not to worry about it. Easy for me to say I know but I can honestly say I love you just as you are! You bring sunshine into my mornings with your guess the next line threads and all the others so thank you! Julie xxx |

Em I'm sure people are more interested in what you are saying, not how you're spelling it - It's your personality that people care about, nothing else matters. Sharon xx |

Goodness Em, please don't worry about it. Who on here can hold their hand up and say that they never spell anything wrong. You write brilliantly, you are fun and always ready for a laugh and you give some brilliant advice. I wish I could find the words to give advice like you do. Chrissie x |

Em, My other half has memory problems just like yours, following a mild stroke three years ago. I must admit we do sometimes get the giggles when he comes out with the wrong word, or gets tongue tied, but I do understand your frustration. Some days he feels totally useless when he has a bad day. Sometimes, when he is getting frustrated at himself and struggling to say a word, I pull his hair which annoys him. He swears, telling me to **** off! Then he can go back to what he was saying, as that diversion seems to unlock whatever is 'stuck'. |

I too am slower than I was, having had a couple of accidents where I landed on my head and had concussion. Surely it doesn't matter about the grammar and spelling, as long as you get the point across - after all we aren't at school....... |

Well I didn't even notice Em, and I haven't had an accident so I haven't even got an excuse! LOL I didn't know about your accident and I've certainly never noticed any of the symptoms you've mentioned. Isn't it a shame that somebody had to mention the spelling mistake in the first place. I've seen alot worse on here.......usually in my posts! Jeanette x |

Although I know its easy for me to say, and I can sort of understand the concern... try not to worry about it. My typing is dreadful at times. My spelling a bit iffy too, and as for not being able to remember things... my 'RAM' needs an upgrade I think... the amount of times that I can't think of the right word, or someones name, or who sang a song, or who scored the winner against Liverpool last season... you know, things I should remember... I think that sort of thing happens to us all at times. Paul x |

Em, No we wont laugh, even quietly because it obviously bothers you. But nobody should pick up spelling errors on here. My best subject was English yet i am often aware, after the event that i make loads of spelling mistakes, mainly because of carelessness and going too fast. I haven't got the results of an accident to blame but I also find myself groping for the right word. i read somewhere that we have these problems partly because the brain has so much to retain and decipher that things get missed (and I can't even think of the word I want here either). But you always come over as a highly intelligent person, any spelling mistakes I put down to speed. You are also obviously a caring person and you are a very popular person on here. So please don't worry, don't even think about it, most of the time we would not even notice. And, as somebody said, we loveyou as you are. Ann Glos |

Em Your message is fine, I don't see any spelling mistakes in it at all! Very few people are particularly good at spelling these days and no-one should be picking you up on an incorrectly spelt word, particularly on a message board such as this. I am quite good at spelling myself but would NEVER try to correct anyone on here. My problem is that I have what I call 'dyslexic fingers'. My fingers type a word with the letters in the wrong order all the time - LOL!! Don't you worry about it, just type what you like. At least you don't use 'text speak' (as I call it). Regards Lynne |

Em Sorry to hear that you have been made to feel low. I think what you say is much more important than a few minor spelling mistakes. I have noticed that my spelling on here is much worse than in 'normal' life. As I am slow at typing, I'm in such a hurry to keep up with a thread sometimes that spelling just goes 'out of the window'. Gwyn |

Hi Em, I have a few friends who tell me when I have spelt something wrongly and I don't mind because I have no excuse for spelling incorrectly and I'm happy for them to do so. There are also a couple of people (the same ones) who I tell if they have made a typo because I know they are as picky as me. But I wouldn't dream of correcting someone who I wasn't on such terms with. I do think we all have an obligation to make our posts as understandable as possible, if only to avoid confusion and people getting uptight when there is no need. However, it is bad manners to pick people up on poor spelling and grammar. Gwynne |
