Madame Butterfly, all of it. Was my Mam's favourite opera Andrea Botticelli and Celine Dion singing My Prayer, was played at Dad's funeral. Very emotional music for me.Find it hard to speak when I hear either of them. Mau XX

I wouldn't say that any one song has had that kind of effect on me, but I'm going to nominate an obscure choice, by US band 'Eels' who write some really emotionally intelligent songs and this one, 'P.S. You Rock My World' made the most impact on me, I think it's about believing in hope in the darkest of circumstances. I was at a funeral the day I realized I wanted to spend my life with you Sitting down on the steps at the old post office the flag was flying at half-mast And I was thinkin' bout how everyone is dying And maybe it's time to live I don't know where we're going I don't know what we'll do Walked in to the Thrif-tee Saw the man with the hollow eyes who didn't give me all my change But it didn't bother me this time 'cause I know I've only got this moment And it's good I went to the gas station Old woman honked her horn Waiting for me to fix her car I don't know where we're going I don't know what we'll do Laying in bed tonight I was thinking and listening to all the dogs and the sirens and the shots And how a careful man tries to dodge the bullets While a happy man takes a walk And maybe it's time to live.

Heather, yes. It's so strange to think that someone else has those indescribably sad feelings about that song for the same reason. It's a beautiful song but so poignant that i can't bear to hear it either. I'm sorry that our link with it is such a sad one but in some some strange way it's a comfort now to know I'm not alone in how I react to the sound of it when I overhear it in a shop, etc. Bless you Heather. Joy xx

Oh Joy, what a coincidence that we both heard that song (If you leave me now ...) when our dear mums were going. It kills me when I hear that now.

this one does it for me every time, but not sure why...maybe secretly i wanna be free lmao dont tell me hubby though I Wanna be Free By Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart I wanna be free, Like the bluebirds flying by me Like the waves out on the blue sea. If your love has to tie me, don't try me, Say good-bye. I wanna be free, Don't say you love me say you like me, But when I need you beside me, Stay close enough to guide me, confide in me, Oh-oh-oh I wanna hold yur hand, Walk along the sadn Laughing in the sun, Always having fun Doing all those things Without any strings To tie me down. I wanna be free, Like the warm September wind, babe, Say you'll always be my friend, babe. We can make it to the end, babe, Again, babe, I gotta say: I wanna be free I wanna be free I wanna be free

I'll find my way home. Vangelis Heard that just after my dad died always think of him. You'll never walk alone . My mum used to sing that to me. Germaine x You ask me where to begin Am i so lost in my sin You ask me where did i fall I'll say i can't tell you when But if my spirit is lost How will i find what is near Don't question i'm not alone Somehow i'll find my way home My sun shall rise in the east So shall my heart be at peace And if you're asking me when I'll say it starts at the end You know your will to be free Is matched with love secretly And talk will alter your prayer Somehow you'll find you are there. Your friend is close by your side And speaks in far ancient tongue A seasons wish will come true All seasons begin with you One world we all come from One world we melt into one Just hold my hand and we're there Somehow we're going somewhere Somehow we're going somewhere [interlude] You ask me where to begin Am i so lost in my sin You ask me where did i fall I'll say i can't tell you when But if my spirit is strong I know it can't be long No questions i'm not alone Somehow i'll find my way home Somehow i'll find my way home Somehow i'll find my way home Somehow i'll find my way home

'Old Shep' by Elvis Presley has to be one of the worst for making me cry! Also 'You don't belong to me' by Barbra Streisand. Love this thread! Janetx

If you leave me now (and take away the very heart of me) This was playing on the radio the morning that my darling mother (64) fell deeper into a coma that she was never going to come out of. It's just too hard to listen to. and 'I can't give you anything (but my love)' Just the intro and I'm back in another life. Ah well. Music, like perfume, is so evocative, so powerful. I've been a bit blubbery reading all your posts.

I'm welling up at all these messages, as many of those songs mean something to me, for different reasons. Very nostalgic thread. Liz

The only song that really gets me is Smile by Nat King Cole (nearly wrote Nat King Kong then??!lol!). Smile was played at my Dad's funeral, so a very sad song for me. Carol x

I'm a big softy too and lots of music moves me - especially ones which remind me of my loved ones. Panis Angelicus (reminds me of my Grandad) It's a Wonderful World and 12th of Never (2 of Dad's favourites) The Little Boy that Santa Claus Forgot (Dad used to sing it to me) Danny Boy Three Bells (Jimmy Brown) Memories by Barbara Streisand Amazing Grace (with bagpipes) Everybody Hurts Say You, Say Me Imagine Morning Side by Niel Diamond and loads, loads more. Margaret I've been snivelling reading all though the songs on here!

When I hear a certain hymn, makes me cry because it reminds me of granddad (was at his funeral service).
