Sorry Debs - I don't want to argue (honest;)) but you said you don't like seeing huge bellies and speedos around the pool. But we might be talking about different things - you say you don't find them a turn on and I'm really not talking about people being topless for other people's enjoyment and titilation. When I have my top off it's cos I'm hot and it feels better, I don't give a flying flap if other people find it nice or revolting to look at;)) I suppose I think if they don't want to see it, they don't have to look, just the same as I don't like people in mohair jumpers but that's my problem:)) PMSL Glenys - sorry:)) That's how I feel Ruth:) Joan & Gwynne - you'd best keep away from me in summertime then lol |

I know nudity is perfectly natural and I have no objection to it whatsoever on the beach etc. But I'm with those who don't like to see too much exposed flesh when shopping or eating in restaurants in the city. I do find the sight of acres of flesh being squashed into clothes that are too tight quite repulsive. Muffin tops or beer guts hanging over tight shorts or trousers are very unattractive in the surroundings of a city. I scarcely notice them in the beach or parks etc. If people wore clothes that fitted properly I don't think it would be so bad. Gwynne |

I think that's brilliant Chrissie:)) My body ain't what it was (sorry Maz lol) but I'm generally fairly comfortable with it. My step-daughter lived with us before she left home and we were all quite comfortable with each other's nakedness - but I definitely wasn't brought up like that. And I think skinny dipping is the best feeling in the world:) |

On the other hand though just because someone is very overweigh why should they stay covered up and be uncomfortable.??? |

Yep, I have to agree with you. This, of course, will encourage my cultivating cellulite, which seems to have a mind of its own. :-( |

David I will repeat it again im not on about pot bellies - that to me is a sign of contentment the same as im far from being a size 10, but at the same time I dont find a huge person in speedos or bikini a turn on, I know some people do but hey everyone to their own. The same as I am a vegetarian but I cook meat!!! Debs x |

Chrissie I wouldnt expect you to stop having fun, but thats not what we were saying is it? My point is there is a time and a place to go topless.. The pool and the beach are 2 of those places, but again have you seen a grossly overweight person and we arent on about a couple or few stones overweight? Debs x |

Hi Dee That's my attitude:) but it's because we are so uptight about nudity and how we see our own bodies that nakedness is half taboo and this causes this excitable curiosity:) Debs I'm not offended:) I'm average-ish but I feel very strongly about the attitude you have, that there's a problem with men with pot bellies and speedos:) Equally, I have a problem with society's attitude to women who don't conform to what seems to be the accepted view of the perfect age/look/figure. As I see it, it's the people who object to the way other people look who have the problem, not the people themselves:) |

p.s. I should add that it doesn't stop me swimmimg though. I'm not daft enough to stop having fun just because I look awful. Sorry Debs but my hubby, though quite slim, has a tummy and I love to see him on the beach and splashing about in the sea having fun. |

Hi David Just seen your comment.Sorry, been busy reading the Jahovah's Witness thread. I do agree with you really though. I think a lovely fit body is great to look at but I am not revolted when I see large flabby ones (apart from my own). I used to be a naturist and I often walk around starkers at home when the curtains are closed, so my daughter has never been brought up to find the human body uncomfortable. Chrissie x |

Topless men, and nudity in general is fine by me. The main problem is the lascivious looks people give you when you are in a state of undress. If everyone could just appreciate that nakedness is natural, and not a form of exhibitionism everything would be fine Dee ;-) |

David Not that at all, I think there are some very attractive large people, male and female but at the same time I wouldnt want to see a fit guy/female walking around the grocery store topless.. But do have to say I would maybe rather they kept their tops on, I spend a lot of time at the pool and cant believe that men (and it usually is) walk around with a huge belly and speedos on!! I think it should banned.. Sorry just read your bit grandpa- maybe showing off your body is the wrong way to word it, but to walk around in your own garden is fine and on the beach, in your car, again time and a place. Though im sure you can stay just as cool in a cotton top, how else do hot countries manage it? Hope your not taking offence but this is my view on it Debs x |

Hello Debs Is that cos you don't think average medium or fat people can be attractive? |

Unknown | Report | 29 Jul 2006 15:53 |
I can agree with the idea that men should wear tops while shopping at the Supermarket. But when outside I prefer to wear just shorts and sandals in hot weather. As regards the ladies, I have seen more t*ts when a Matron in a scoop top leans into her shopping trolley at the checkout than I have seen on the beach. Not that I am complaining you understand. Debs, I don't think its a question of Showing Off the body, most of us are past that stage, it is more a question of comfort. |

I have to admit but I dont agree with you, not saying im a size 8 model, but there is nothing worse than seeing an overweight person parading around as if they were a size 8 model... Again there is a time and a place to show off your body and a shopping mall or grocery store isnt one of them.. Debs x |

All sizes and shapes are good Chrissie:)) - well I hope so anyway lol. that's sort of my point though - it's a shame that so many of us are so self conscious and I think it can be sad that kids are brought up to find nudity funny or uncomfortable. |
