What do you guys do then - draw the tree - don't you use a software package? I'm beginning to think it's best just making your own notes once you find out how these things work!

Hi I tend to make notes on each of my families as I go along (have a different folder for each one) then when I am sure I then add to my FTM and GR tree. Mim

Mim and Janice, You are really helping me here, I am sat with papers all over the place and I'm just stuck - so I'm going to get a folder for each family (or person?) and then when I'm sure I'll do that and put them in my Fam Tree Maker and genes united one as well... I think that everyone is just doing it all at once and I'm panicking... plus the fact that granddad is 97 and I really want to get something for him. I would love to contact the living out of this and perhaps have a get together... it would be a big thank you to you I would never have done this otherwise.. But I'm going to try and follow your trail to see what you are seeing - because at the moment I can't see anything - I'm just not doing it right, but I'll get there (hopefully). Annie x thank you.

BINGO! Found Matilda in 1891: Matilda Wright 42 widow Frank son 8 William son 6 **** Jane Doughty MOTHER 70 brushmaker born London **** Henry Wilkins 42 widower boarder Percy Wilkins 6 his son Now we have Matilda's maiden name! In 1901 Matilda and Mum are still together with William aged 16. But, places of birth are not the same as in the 1891!
