Hello anyone, I'm coming back to my family history after quite a while away and I'm having to go back over everything I've done. I am trying to view a birth entry for Annie Alice Wright - born 20 June 1878. She died 14 Jan 1911. Was married June 1895 to James Clark I have the marriage and death cert, and I try to view the birth certificate on BMD but when I view the image I can't find her entry? I have ordered the Birth Cert - but I'm not sure it's the right one? Can someone please advise me. And, I wonder if there is anyone out there still that I was corresponding with, with links to my tree? Annie

Thank you Janice, So would you also have ordered what they suggest is the birth certificate? I don't know any other way of looking at it? annie

Is this the birth cert you have ordered? Is Southampton the right area? When you get it, you'll have the parents' names. Father's name should match what is on the marriage cert. Do you have them on any census? There's an Annie Wright in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight who fits, dau of William and Ann. Could this be her? Janice

I'm not sure what you mean? The entry is there, as Janice has just given it to you. The page number looks like 16 to me. Kath, x

I've just got to go to work until 10pm but will catch you when I get back - I'm just very slow at beginning again so not getting the searches I think. But I couldn't get to page 16? what is the url you use to get the info please? I have the parents of Annie Alice as Henry Wright - he was born 1845 and Matilda Jane Wright - born 1849 - does this help. I have the Marriage Cert for Annie and also her Death Cert.. Thank you Annie

You can't access the page - that's the birth cert page reference. You have to buy the cert to be able to view it: it isn't imaged online. Not being funny here but if you already know who Annie's parents are, why do you want the certificate? Janice

Hi there, I think I'm just trying to get it absolutely right this time - mum died last year of a Brain Tumour and I just blocked all this out so I've lost some of my thought thread if you know what I mean... Just trying to get it back and do the right thing... Can you give me any golden rules to keep me focused until I get back into this again, I would be most grateful. I thought if I got the birth, marriage and death cert of everyone that is a good thing? Also, where do you find out what children they had? I did go to the local records office before - is this the only way? Also, how do I look at local parish records please? are they online? Thank you in advance. Annie

Just found Henry and Matilda with daughter Alice A right age in Yorkshire. Does this sound more like the right family? Janice

My 97 year old grandfather is still alive and living with me, and I am trying to find out a bit about his father (James Clark) - (who he never knew). I have the marriage certificate and he was married to Annie Alice Wright (was a music hall artist) - his name was James Clark (was a professor of music so it says) - on the marriage cert it says either Thomas Clark or Norman clark I can't quite read it - but he was (the father) a french polisher. Can you please help me start this trail and where do I look. Annie

Hi Janice, This is what I'm not sure of, how do I know if it's right? later years they were all in Southampton? Annie

Annie Report 11 Nov 2006 16:46

Hi Janice, For some unknown reason (because I can't remember) I have put down that Henry Wright was born in Portsmouth and Matilda was born in Witham, Essex? So I am really confused now. Annie... have to dash off to work, but can't wait to get back - 10pm

Postings crossed! You don't necessarily need every cert - that can be very expensive. Henry and Matilda's children you can find on the censuses. I presume you have access to Ancestry - or was that entry on FreeBMD? Janice

Struggling to find them on the 1901 census. What is James's age on the marriage cert? Does your granddad have any older siblings? Janice

Mim - you are a STAR! That has to be them with those occupations. Well done! I've been tearing my hair out over them this evening. That'll teach me not to assume anything - I had James as Head of household. Janice

Back from work.... That's great - thank you... I remember before I found them up there - but then their daughter died either in a fire or (granddad thinks) her nighty caught fire - so she died a year(ish) later. I have her death certicate - but I can't read some of it... it states the father as James Clark and she was 12 months... her uncle was the informant W.A. Clark. So now I want to try and trace Granddad's father and also his sister Grace. Because they were Music Artists they moved around a bit I think.... Granddad Alfred George Clark born 1909 (now 97) and his brother Charles Thomas Clark born 18 April 1897, there was also Grace Clark - but I have no details on her. - But the children seemed to be with different families. Granddad was bought up by someone called 'Granny Dunn' (annie Jane Dunn) but I can't find Grace? I have found his brother in South Africa (well I did this before when I was a bit more switched on).... I still have to contact the remaining family - so I had better get on and do it. I just wonder why they left the others in Southampton - maybe it was because they travelled around? Granddad for some reason thinks his father (James Clark) broke his mothers back? not sure where or why he remembers that? Annie.

Oh and I'm not sure Southampton is the correct birth place for Annie Alice Clark - all I know is they were in Southampton later in years - which is why I would like to know where she was actually born - I suppose only the birth cert will give me that? Annie

Annie

Annie Report 11 Nov 2006 23:43

JAMES CLARK I have the age of 25 on the marriage certificate and for Annie Alice it was 17 Annie

Southampton is only the registration district. The area covered is huge so it might not be Southampton itself. However there is a christening on the IGI for an Annie Alice Wright, parents Henry and Matilda, in Southampton.
