The way I read that post was that eRRol was calling the 4 people in mobility scooters arrogant for the way they behaved ................... and I think I would agree with him.

In no way was he calling AnninG arrogant.


You're all seeing it as black and white ........................ either being a pedestrian or a mobility / scooter user.



I'm not fit, I walk with a cane, I cannot move quickly, nor can I change direction quickly without it causing great pain .................... and neither pedestrians nor mobility scooters (or wheelchair pushers/users) take that into account.


I dislike seeing mobility scooters coming towards me, as much as I hate seeing a kid on a skateboard or long board!




and we, in general, have much wider sidewalks that you guys do, and it is still very much a problem.


At the same time, I do appreciate that mobility scooters allow people to get out and about, and live as much of a "normal" life as they can.


Pedestrians can be even more rude and arrogant :-)

My OH and I work for a charity that provides mobility scooters to cancer patients. It gives our clients mobility, independence and dignity. I wouldn't take that away because of the odd person who misuses their scooter.

My problem with the moaning about mobility scooters is that we lucky ones can sidestep, turn on the spot and, if necessary, jump out of the way or go up and down a kerb without a seconds hesitation..........apart from watching out for passing cars or bikes on the road we might be stepping into.

I don't know of any mobility scooter or wheelchair that has that same capability....do you?? :-)

I am lucky enough to be able to walk, run and move freely at will.

Mobility scooters aren't a scourge, they are a way for thousands to do just a few of the things we can do each and every day without a second thought, get out and enjoy the fresh air, have a tour round their local area and break the monotony of 4 walls.

Mobility scooters are ridden by fellow human beings...............some may inconvenience others from time to time, but so do pedestrians who walk 3 abreast, stop for no apparent reason or barge in front of us.

But I would say they are thoughtless rather than arrogant.

STEP AND NON AUTOMATIC DOOR

it does errol thats why i am careful and try and stay out of way of pedestrians and if in shops i will wait at end of aisles rather than try and go past people on it for fear of them stepping back as know how much it huts to be got by one, and hubby is careful when he pushes me in wheelchair but not a lot you can do when they come from behind you then walk across you cos the place they want to go is right there and they cant bear to walk a few extra feet ,

and what about the pedestrians that have it set in their mind where they are going and walk out in front of us wheelchair/mobility users (I Use both) and just because I have no choice but to use them doesnt mean I have two heads as alot of people must seem to think the amount of time they spend staring at me.

well said Dizzi - for years I pushed my lovely Mum around in a wheelchair - not a nice experience for either of us

FIT FOLK STAND IN FRONT OF ME REFUSING TO MOVE ASIDE WHICH IS NOT
ALWAYS POSSIBLE SO I END UP IN THE ROAD WHILE THEY PASS.

OH AND BY THE WAY I WONDER WHAT YOU'D BE LIKE IN A DISABILITY SCOOTER
