I agree with you in principle Roy, but there is a chance that some who RR only do so as they know it has a habit of livening the board up from time to time.

A few RR posts of an evening will always get the page moving ;-)

Good points, Lynda. I do enjoy what you write and you are always respectful.

Sex? When I was a young thing like you, it was what people in Sutton Coldfield, Harrogate and Sully had their coal delivered in. :-S

Lynda, You may well of been talking about an inappropriate posts, such as one that was on here years ago but this debate is not about posts from years ago and im not saying that all content should go un-reported but i do believe that anyone reporting should post why they have reported a post, I simply don't buy the excuse that some say its out of a fear of intimidation via PM or on the boards, GR have the abilty to block any member from sending any other member a PM in the first place and they can ban any member if they do it on the boards so their is no broblem that cannot be overcome.

PP I mean very inappropriate posts, such as one that was on here years ago, where a delightful member asked about a particular sexual position, and who liked it, can you imagine posts that followed? Don't know about you, but not the sort of stuff I want to see, that's not to say I don't know about sex, but I certainly wouldn't want to see people discuss it on here.
As for likening the rr button as being a tell tale tit, if GR think the post o.k they reinstate it, so where is the problem?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 20 Jan 2014 17:23

Lynda. Yes, I would be very offended. And there is an awful lot of blasphemy on this site. Why do I not report it? Because 1. I don't read it past the first two words 2. it would serve no purpose whatsover to rr and would cause those with no belief in God to think the reporter was narrow-minded and a bigot. Peace would not reign.

Everyone must work out their own belief in their own way, and live and die in unbelief. We are all free with freewill (at least most of us). No one has any excuse for not attending to spiritual matters.

I feel the best censureship is to ignore posts that offend (unless hateful, racist sexist etc). I am encouraged that people can make jokes about religion in UK (whether Catholic, Muslim, Sikh or Protestant). You cannot tell jokes in some countries about certain religions, and I feel legislation to ban religious jokes shows a country to be weak in the faith. To be hateful towards a Muslim or a Christian is not nice civilised behaviour, but I would always defend the right of a person to challenge the Lord Jesus Christ or the Prophet Mohammed - even to satirise them.

If they are truly deities, good will conquer all.

I do wish the same old would stop thinking and acting on behalf of just one or many that they do not have the right to be offened.

Why the out pour grief for a lost post and aftermath bad mouthing ,,,,,,,,,its only pixcels on a screen of which the contents seemed unsuitable.

:-D.

Lynda, "There is a time and place for everything, a genealogy site isn't the place for a lot of things, there are specialist sites for most of those those subjects"

By that logic GR should not have a General Chat, Hobbies and Crafts plus Quizzes and Games Boards

May be GR should not allow any posts not related to genealogy

~Lynda~ Report 20 Jan 2014 16:52

John, I wonder how you'd feel if there were so called jokes about religion posted, maybe blasphemous jokes? Now to some who have no faith they may probably fall about laughing, and think the joke hilarious, would you laugh if it were blasphemous, would you report it, if you were offended, I imagine you may. There is a time and place for everything, a genealogy site isn't the place for a lot of things, there are specialist sites for most of those those subjects

As for you thinking I go to far with an argument, maybe that's because I feel strongly about it, but I'll still sleep well knowing you think I shouldn't say what I think.

well I suppose Jonesey I am not going to be able to find one after all lolol, because they have all been on threads that have been removed by GR :-)

School days come to mind.

You know, when "Tell Tale Tit" Charlie sticks his hand up and whines........

"Miss, Miss........Prickles has just said something rude!!"

TELL-TALE tit,
Your tongue shall be slit,
And all the dogs in the town
Shall have a little bit.

Jonesey I don;t think I have time to find such a post, so you will have to take my word on it ( or not) that I have seen at least one.

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 20 Jan 2014 16:38

Rose,

Surely you jest.

In all my years as a very active GR member I have rarely seen a member admitting that they were the individual who reported a post. I have never seen nor do I ever expect that I will ever see a situation where more than one individual is claiming that it was them who simultaneously lodged the report. That really is entering into the realm of fantasy.

Lynda. Barry and one or two others have got fed up with this vexatious reporting. I tend to agree with you on most things, but I think you take your argument far too far sometimes.

Barry has put his head above the parapet, and I would like to see others re-posting "innocent" stuff that gets reported until the reporter gives up. Barry knew he risked getting thrown off the site - that was why he was brave imo.

I would also like to see Genes give him full support. Will they? Or will they just remove this thread because it has upset a couple of posters?

Rose. One of Barry's posts had only been viewed by 3 people when it was whooshed (the infrequent sex one) and one of those was Kuros, who commented it must have been one of the other two.

Rambling Report 20 Jan 2014 16:20

stop stirring John, there was nothing like that in your post as well you know.

In any case you could say that 'Agnes' is already at a disadvantage when she reports to GR, because her report is less likely to be upheld by the youngsters in admin, who are perhaps more accustomed to less censorship generally ?

Jonesey, though a post only shows as being reported, it is possible that a number of people have hit the button at the same time...so it may not be a sole arbiter. ( not that I am saying that is the case here or on the other thread just that it does happen, you do sometimes see several people post simultaneously 'I have reported your thread' :-D

JustJohn Report 20 Jan 2014 16:18

Rose. Yes, we all need to protect our children. But can you imagine telling D that he could not see Barry's jokes :-0 :-0 :-0 Even when very young, he would have either laughed or not understood and asked you to explain. And then laughed :-D :-D

I still have problems with my R, who believes that everyone out in cyber space is as nice as him. There are some nasty pieces of work out there, and at least one charmer recently on this site who I believed (though at loggerheads most of time) to be a genuinely nice, if slightly simple, person. How wrong I was :-0 How wrong many of us were :-( :-( :-(

~Lynda~

~Lynda~ Report 20 Jan 2014 16:12

What do you mean challenging this reporter John, you off round there house then? No wonder the likes of Agnes don't say if they report anything, silly thing to say if you want others to say if they report threads. As for Barry being brave, what's he done? Must of missed that.

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 20 Jan 2014 16:08

What I cannot get my head round is that anyone can be so egocentric enough to believe that they alone should be the sole arbiter of what anyone else should see, read or do. Not even I would do that and I'm perfect. :-D
