I must admit that cupcakes tend to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Crumpets? Love 'em!

Muffins? or Crumpets? or Pikelets? or.......... It seems to depend on which bit of the UK you are in. The following link makes interesting reading.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 11 Jul 2013 22:28

I love old fashioned cakes, there's a bakers near me sells Russian cake, battenburg (much nicer than the branded ones in supermarkets) and cauliflower cakes - they're a sponge bun with cream on top, encased in green marzipan leaves.

Oh my goodness. Fairy cakes to cupcakes, cup cake kits and butterfly cake kits. A friend of mine told me she had bought a cup cake maker, I just didn't have the interest to ask what it was. I mean, whoever can't mix some butter, sugar, eggs and flour together. And now I read about baking sheets becoming cookie sheets.
Well I guess it must have happened around the same time as blenders became smoothie makers!!! Why do we have to be so American? :-0 :-0

PMSL @ Sylvia's urban dic meaning :-D

Yes I know its very childish but very true ;-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jul 2013 20:09

Hi Errol

I think cupcakes are a world wide thing now .......

...... but these recent horrible gigantic ones, and the trend to develop ever more of them, originated in the US

My mum used to make fairy cakes .......... in Lancashire.

I used to try to make them ............... but I'm not a very good baker. My strengths lie elsewhere ;-)

SylviaInCanada - when I googled "cupcakes" I found out a lot of interesting information.
I wonder whether cupcakes are a geographical thing.
Are they, for example, popular in Wales?

My nana used to make horrible cupcakes.

I shall look at edible cupcakes with a very different eye from now on!!!

My eyes have been opened wide by looking for the meaning of cupcakes :-0 :-0 :-0

don't think I will ever wish in future that I could even try one

Makes one wonder how words are used and adapted to other meanings!
