Pm'd to change the thread post around from General to Genealogy chat - so here goes

Very interesting to see the new features on the site.
The search facility is all icons. GR have certainly added a load of stuff which is on FMP as well.
The home page has Genes Extra as well.
I've just put my name in the hat for a years supply of Penguin books.
Let the best man win!!!

I already subscribe to the mag so now need for that.

The offer on the wines is great but I don't drink either so for me it's not so interesting.

For new members the subscription rates are on the home page but can't be seen if you are already a member. However if you look on AUS, NZ or SA sites - url links are at the bottom of the page - they are there. If you are a subscriber from one of those sites you can review the subs o the UK site.

Could write loads but best to leave it to others to contribute.

Have fun

:-D :-D :-D

Yep, sure is and it takes multiple attempts to post on the boards due to the dreaded error message

Don't like the new search and it needs a line to separate the end of a record and the start of the next one.

Why have you posted this

If I want to read any thread I will find it for myself

Think you will find that most people check all the boards anyway

Now there are two threads about this subject which make no sense at all.

What is the point of cross ref each thread to the other one when they say absolutey nothing

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 10 Jun 2013 14:04

So just altered it.

Why did you not just leave it on General Chat - or was it because it was getting ignored.

Not sure what all that means at the bottom about other sites?

There is only one Genes Reunited site, there isn't a different one for Australia, NZ, Canada ect

CupCakes Report 10 Jun 2013 14:33

Jax - If you look at the footer on the home page it has links to other sites.

Yes there is only one main GR site but the others have their own seperate entry intertface. It depends on your location which one you enter by.

The office said it was due to payments from outside Uk not in sterling.

Also the new Genes Extra is not applicable for people living outside UK

:-D

Don't know what went on this morning.

But - because I clear my cookies etc everyday I always have to log in (quite happy about that) so when I entered www.genes etc I found the new page. Well, If I was a novice looking for a site to research my family history I would be put right off. The main focus seems to be looking for living relatives or the recently expired! Historical records are listed further down in small print.

I've also mentioned on Gai's thread that I don't have Genes extra (UK log in).

Edited to remove an extra comma.

I thought this site was celled Genes Reunited because that was what it was mainly about; reuniting living relatives ;-)
I like the new look. But there will always be people who don't like change

Hi Graham

I'm not against change, When I first came onto Genes my thought was to find connections further back, rather than the living relatives.

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 10 Jun 2013 15:16

There is a seperate thread on the board about the extra's - There was an Gene Extra's link on the home page a couple of hours ago but it has vanished now - no wonder people are confused. :-S :-S

Graham

This site was set up to research family history...........it was originally called Genes Connected, which made a lot more sense.

Making contact with living relatives is not, and never has been, its primary function, although some people seem to use it solely for that nowadays.

Why has this thread actually been posted?

Does the OP think no-one but she is capable of finding anything.................

I am very slightly confused as to how I now do a search for births of a specific surname, within a 20 year radius in a certain county stating mothers maiden name - can anyone advise please

thank you

Lesley

Lesley just tried it out , put the mother's maiden name in 'optional keyword'

trailertrash

trailertrash Report 10 Jun 2013 19:03
