I believe that when you have the results from the initial search ... As described by Rose .... If you look again at the search button area, you will see or use "advance search " .. Click on that and the county box opens ....

Perhaps the poster means that if you send her a personal message she will arrange with Genes to have your version of the site changed to meet your individual preference eg. the navigation bar on the left moved to the right, and those links which do not apply to you removed (Genes Extras only apply in UK).

I had only just sorted out where I was supposed to post what...now,I havent a clue!

when looking for marriage, theres a box saying Births, next to this is a box for date...is this the birth date of the person whose marriage you wanted,or what? So confused...what happened to "if it aint broke, dont fix it"?
I realize we have to keep up with the times, but this is all well and good if you are younger, and computer literate! I'm neither, and it's hard adjusting to changes.
Could we not have an option where we can use the old way, please?

Eric - they've gone. A pity, as they were quite useful for more recent entries that aren't yet on FreeBMD.

i can't see a way of limiting to a county if you have used the 'optional keyword' section for the mmn, :-S

trailertrash

trailertrash Report 10 Jun 2013 19:22

think Freebmd only goes up to 1984 - used to be able to do a simple search for a surname in a county with mmn 20 year span, haven't worked out how to get the county bit on the new layout. Apart from that, the type face is much clearer I think.

Can you not use freebmd? or is it a very recent one?

Lesley just tried it out , put the mother's maiden name in 'optional keyword'

trailertrash

trailertrash Report 10 Jun 2013 18:48

I am very slightly confused as to how I now do a search for births of a specific surname, within a 20 year radius in a certain county stating mothers maiden name - can anyone advise please

thank you

Lesley

Why has this thread actually been posted?

Does the OP think no-one but she is capable of finding anything.................

Graham

This site was set up to research family history...........it was originally called Genes Connected, which made a lot more sense.

Making contact with living relatives is not, and never has been, its primary function, although some people seem to use it solely for that nowadays.

There is a seperate thread on the board about the extra's - There was an Gene Extra's link on the home page a couple of hours ago but it has vanished now - no wonder people are confused. :-S :-S
