Island

Island Report 26 May 2013 22:04

I'm following this with interest as my text jumps too :-|
I thought it was peculiar to my laptop model.
I wondered about the touchpad (which I don't use) but I haven't been able to disable it.

Nolls try the following (all single left clicks unless otherwise stated):

1. Click on the Start button and then Control Panel (right hand side of Start menu).
2a. If Control Panel is displaying by icons click on Device Manager.
OR
2b. If Control Panel is displaying by Category then click on "Hardware and Sound" and then on "Device Manager".
3. When Device Manager has opened look down the list and click on the little arrow to the left of "Keyboards".
4. You should then see something like "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Right click on it and select "Properties".
5. In the new window that opens, click on the "Driver" tab at the top.
6. Click on the "Update Driver..." button.
7. In the new window click on "Search automatically for updated driver software".
8. Your laptop will now search for an updated driver and will tell you if your current one is up to date.

If you have a problem following these instructions just shout.

Island I think the on/off button for the touchpad on your model is in the top left corner of the touchpad just below the touchpad light.

Quickly double tapping there may turn it on and off.

Nolls, mine isn't quite that bad but it would be unusual for the text not to jump within 30/40 words. It's particularly despairing as I am not a touch typist so my text often looks like gobbledegook.

Island Report 26 May 2013 22:43

Errol, I've tried that before and it doesn't work.

Island - ok it is possible that you don't have the Synaptic touchpad drivers installed but we can soon fix this if you want

Island Report 26 May 2013 23:15

That sounds familiar from previous googlings I have done Errol - real life got in the way of sorting it. It would be great to fix it if possible but right now my pit is calling. Catchoo tomorrow and many thanks. :-D

Island and Nolls I will get back to both of you tomorrow.
Nolls I think it may be a hardware rather than software problem.

Island - which version of Windows 7 is it?

You can find out by...

1. Click on Start menu and right click on Computer on the right hand side.
2. Select Properties.
3. The window that opens will tell you which version you are running, near the top.
4. Further down the window it will tell you, next to "System type", whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.
5. You can close this window just by clicking on the little red "X" in the top right corner.

Nolls - did your problem start gradually or did it just suddenly start doing it? Does it always happen or are there times when it seems to be working ok?

Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 27 May 2013 18:28

Hi again no it started suddenly and it was happening all the time every 2 words however since yesterday I can type about 6/8 words before it starts ...."A Big Improvement" ..... I was wondering if it could be something to do with talk/t... As a typist it is frustrating to type soo slowly and have to stop and sort the text out (just typed "out" but the u jumped up to the middle of "again" at the top

Nolls from Harrogate Report 27 May 2013 19:07

Desktop....if you mean a big computer ....see how dopey I am!

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 27 May 2013 19:11

Yes lol I mean a big computer.
Ok so it should have a detachable keyboard.
If we are lucky it will be a usb keyboard (don't worry about what this means)
If it is relatively to hand is there any chance you could get the keyboard?
