saw the doctor today ,his blood is now normal,he can come home tomorrow.
he will be discharged with antibiotic's and all his other medication.
he will have a follow up appointment at the james paget hospital (only a couple of miles from us ). the Norfolk and Norwich is 26 miles away, only 2 more journey's to do.it has been draining in this hot weather doing 50ish miles every day for the last 18 day's.
he is so happy he was full of smiles all visiting today, unlike yesterday when I had to leave him in tear's as he could not understand why he could not come home with me.

they are keeping him on the intravenious antibiotics over the weekend, his reading's from his daily blood test's are sky high, the doctor said there is no way that they can discharge him until they start to come down.
apart from his colouring,(he looked a bit better today.) he is on fine form,
because of his confusion he kept saying to the doctor,i can sit in my chair at home the way I am sitting in here,he does not feel ill so he get's confused as to why he is there.
he said he did not want to go to rehab,he said he would not wear a artificial leg if they made him one.
as he does not walk outside due to the cerebella,(now only having one leg also)he only goes out when I take him.
someone who need's the service may as well take his place.

liz I did laugh at your mum's thought's. classic.

Oh poor man, he's going through the mill. Is he not going to rehab now?

Hope the infection is soon dealt with and he can get on to the next stage of recovery.

I was the same colour when I was born or soon after, had jaundice as new babies do sometimes. My dippy mother thought I was that colour cos my Dad had been in the Army in Egypt and similar places the year before!!! Doh! I ended up a pale skinned person, always been asked if I am anaemic when I was younger, before I could use makeup to help.

Oh dear Sue, your poor brother, he seems to be getting everything. I hope he can knock this one on the head too.

martynsue Report 25 Jul 2013 17:35

just his luck.
he passed everything and was ready to come home, guess what he has now got a infection in his liver,
no idea how he got it,he is now on intravenious antibiotic's.
they did a blood test and his white cell's had risen to double what they should be.
he should be home in a couple of day's.

I have to say that today when I went in to see him he looked like he has just spent a fortnight sunbathing,he's got a good tan going on.

sunday,

today we took my brother out in a wheelchair,it was only to the shop in the hospital and to get a cup of tea he loved it.
mind you he leaned over and asked me-- they are not taking my other leg away are they,no I said they are just going to help you move around with just one leg,oh good he said.
he look's so well,no drip's ,just his normal medication.
he should go to rehab in a couple of day's just waiting for a bed to come free.
he is wanting to get on with thing's so he can go home,he asked me today if he still had his house.

He might become more interested in a prosthetic leg when he gets to the rehab place, and sees others trying them.

Hope he stays strong to recover from this massive change to his life, losing the awful pain he had will help I expect.

I am not sure if he want a prosthetic leg as he has shown no interest in it when the physio was talking about it.

Post amputation pain isn't that bad ( according to my OH who is an amputee)

Hopefully they will get him a bit more accustomed to his new state soon. Don't expect a prosthesis for some months - everything has to heal & swelling reduce first

Friday,

all visiting my brother kept saying he wanted to go home,he insisted he was not in any pain,i had to keep reminding him he has a epidural to block the nerve in his stump & when they took that out he has to go to the rehab hospital.

he must be feeling a lot better as he has started moaning.

Oh bless him, hope he gets on ok and he can soon see his dog again. Have you got a picture for him to keep by his bed?

He will be at Colman Road I expect, it used to be the Jenny Lind Children's hospital when I was little, had to go there once to get my chin stitched when I fell over at infant school and cracked my chin on a paving slab edge. I can remember that to this day lol

The grounds there are lovely, it's next to the hospice.

Not so far for you to travel as it's on the ring road, Sue.

went in to see him today,he asked where he was and why he was there and were was his leg,
the nurse's said he had been asking all morning and they kept explaining everything to him,
he seem's very well ,the physio had him out of bed and in a wheel chair, not sure what will happen when they reduce his pain relief.
I had to laugh, the chap in the bed said when they came to take him to theatre he lifted the sheet up,the doctor asked him what he was doing and he replied saying goodbye to my leg,the doctor just looked at him,the chap said he was laughing as the doctor did not get it.
he will have to go to a rehab unit in Norwich for theraphy and to decided if he would like a false leg,he was quite happy as the physio said in the rehab unit they will allow me to bring his dog for a visit,he keep's asking about her and in turn she keep's going to his chair to look for him, they have not been apart since she was 8week's old ,she is now 3yrs old.

I will keep you posted with his progress, thank you all for your kind though's and positive word's.
