I give up! Just been reading the Daily Mail ...yes I know it's a bit late in the day to read the morning paper, but..., Anyway back to what's got my back up Police Officer awarded £13k for a hurt toe though they say it's less than £4000 the rest in legal costs etc?? and in the same paper £20K for a lad's family when he was killed when he hit a wall while driving a stolen car and was being chased by the Police I'm sorry but to me it's a tragedy of his own making, no doubt someone will put me right. Though I do feel sympathy for his little boy . I wonder if anyone will agree with me? |

Is this the one where the police had not been trained in pursuit driving? |

Unfortunately yes! But the driver was still going at 87mph and not wearing his seatbelt and putting others at risk |

Nolls. There is a moral and a legal point here, I think. Morally, he was a daft young driver - like loads of others of that age who think they are immortal and so is everyone else when they are behind the wheel. There are flowers by the side of the road all over these Valleys and they are often young and inexperienced drivers. |

If I believed the Daily Mail weather, I would almost always be inappropriately dressed, Ann. No need to wear your swim costume on Monday in the 30C heatwave predicted in the Mail. It will be wet, windy and cloudy :-D |

Sorry John can't accept "he was a daft young driver" he was in fact a thief who stole a car and went his own way regardless of other drivers , that's no excuse. Young drivers know full well that cars are extremely dangerous though some choose not to care for themselves or others and before anyone shouts me down I know also know that most youngsters are very competent drivers. Yes I agree the police were in the wrong and should be pulled over the coals but I still don't think it' appropriate for any compensation.. .just my own thoughts though. |

Thing is, if the police have treated a criminal in the 'wrong way', ie not gone 'by the book' in following procedure which, in not being trained for speed chases and ignoring orders, was in effect what they did...it is the same as them not following procedure or orders when dealing with a criminal in other circumstances...in the cells, in arrest procedure, in use of restraint etc...the rules HAVE to be followed for everyone, for us all to have confidence in the police I think? |

Kay what's the police to do chase a stolen car or let it go?? Rose I agree police must go by the book otherwise we won't have a decent police force however did they cause the accident? I don't know |

It doesn't matter who caused the accident, either the young man or the police. |
