I was just thinking, I started going with my other half when I was 15 in 1956 and we got married in 1960. Between those years we saw lots of (what was then) big musical films. I have listed some, have I missed any,? I am sure I have.

The Great Caruso, we had the LP with songs from both films.

Wasn't there a musical called the Flower Drum Song ?

The first Mario Lanza film was......That Midnight Kiss....thought it was lovely...told mum and she was a fan then for the rest of her life..
We played him singing I'll Walk with God at her funeral.

Mum and Dad were on stage every year at GRand in Wolverhampton for South Staffs Operatic. Remember most of these. Also Belle of New York, the Arcadians,King and I.

Student Prince? Think that was my favourite song "Drink, drink, drink, let every true lover salute his new heart" or something like that.

Carousel always been my favourite. Still makes me cry now at end when Billy comes back and talks to his daughter (sob, sob).

Carousel was my favourite too. 'Our song' has always been "If I loved you".

Yes, think there was Flower Drum song but may have been earlier than 56, Don't remember the film Porgy and Bess BC was that is those years too?
The great Caruso was the one I was thinking of I think, don't remember That Midnight kiss so it may have been earlier.

These shows were so colourful. Homes seemed drab in those days and highlight of TV was The Grove Family and Cisco Kid. And the Brains Trust!!!! :-( :-(

Trying to remember which show had a harpist as part of the orchestra. I can always remember my dad's indignation when South Staffs Operatic hired a harpist for their week at the Grand. "Good gracious, she wants £2 a pluck!!!!!"

Kismet 1944 then 1955, remember the name but I don't think we saw it. Maybe it stopped circulating by 1956.

think our lives are on a bit of a parallel Ann - met OH 1956, married 1959 - Easter Saturday actually - anniversary this Thursday - went to the pictures many times in the first week or two - films were Seven Brides, The Court Jester, A Town like Alice, The Man who never was - I recall when we were watching Seven Brides and Jane Powell first turned up at Howard Keel's home I commented, rather too loudly, that it looked like his mother's house - which was always a tip - everyone around us fell about laughing!!! and he still married me :-D

loved the Benny Goodman Story - "Memories of you"

I saw the Man who never was on the day I met my OH properly for the first time (23 June 56), But I saw it with another lad who I 'dumped' the following day.

met OH April 8th 1956 - his 21st birthday - was due to go to cinema with another boy, but didn't turn up, so when we were queuing to go in I was petrified the other would suddenly appear - he didn't!!!

What about Moulin Rouge......saw this about 1953 with a Greek boyfriend...very handsome.....didnt last long...I was only 18 then.

The Lady and the Tramp was the first film I ever saw. I think I was three and,for some reason, I was sat on an usherettes fold-down seat for a few moments,so I jumped off and it sprang up with a termendous bang.
