Just viewed the video, I found Susanne reasonably easy to understand, maybe she spoke a bit fast at times but I am sure we all would in that situation. Well done Susanne.

Genes

Genes Advisor Report 20 Feb 2013 15:52

Hi Everyone,

We're glad to see that Susanne's appearance in the first 'Member Tips' video has started a healthy discussion.

We think that Susanne was very brave to be our first volunteer, and we're hoping that now you have seen one, more people might be willing. We are happy to travel all over the UK, but unfortunately our budgets don't quite stretch to Canada.

The whole point behind these videos is to showcase the amazing members on Genes Reunited. The tips collected on here are fantastic, and if you would be happy to read these out on camera then please get in touch by emailing [email protected] - We want other people to know that there is a whole community of family history enthusiasts here on Genes.

You don't have to be a frequent helper, perhaps you do lots of family history for other people, maybe you have been helped out by another member and want to tell us about it. If there is anything you want to share that might help or inspire other people with their family history, then please get in touch.

Muffyxx Report 19 Feb 2013 20:26

Just watched it and had no problem understanding her either.

I think the nit picking is to do with the fact that Suzanne is on record as saying she feels some of the replies from some of the helpers would be off putting to a newbie...and i'm inclined to agree with her.

She came across as very friendly....I think she's done well.

I had no problem understanding her, what are GR supposed to do? Everyone will have some sort of accent whether they be in the UK or not. They could run subtitles I suppose..lolol

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 19 Feb 2013 20:20

i think she was brave too

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Feb 2013 20:11

Susanne wa brave to volunteer ................ or very foolish!!

GR sent me an invitation to video my TOP TIPS .................... but they wouldn't travel to Canada, or pay for me to go to London :-(

I did have one very major problem with Susanne ........................ I could not understand much of what she said :-(

and that is going to be a problem for many people who are not used to English accents.

It may be something that GR should pay attention in future video tips

I say that understanding that people may not understand me ................ I still have a Lancashire accent 45 years after leaving the UK. :-)

Porkie_Pie Report 19 Feb 2013 19:58

Muffy, I believe there was no requirement for trumpets and balloons and from my observations no requirement for you to have ever helped any one let alone be good at it or a major helper,

As for being Brave, If people want to congratulate anyone for sticking their neck above the parapet then thats all well and good but I don't think bravery comes in to it

Just my opinion

JoyBoroAngel Report 19 Feb 2013 19:48

most people who help others dont blow their own trumpets
well dont the unsung heros of GR :-D :-D

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 19 Feb 2013 19:45

Was part of the conditions of volunteering that you had to be a major helper on the boards? Or is it ok for folk who do their tree without the trumpets and balloons to get involved too?
